Château La Conseillante 2015

Remains one of the finest Pomerol of the year, immensely floral, fruity, complex and elegant, with superb tannins and a touch of warmth noticeable only in the long finish.

This is reserved, with subtle Earl Grey tea, singed apple wood and warm fruitcake aromas opening slowly ahead of a core of dark boysenberry, raspberry and blackberry compote flavors. A lovely swath of velvety tannins carries the finish, with the fruit and spice aromas pulling together nicely. Some patience is needed here, but this is one of the elite of the AOC in this vintage. Best from 2023 through 2040. 3,333 cases made.

This is a perfumed wine, rich in tannins and with a good balance between the Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the blend. Ripe black fruits and velvet tannins give the wine elegance and charm. It is juicy and ripe, with a background of firm structure set against a crisp final texture. The wine will develop well; drink from 2025.

For the last four decades, La Conseillante has been a perennial favourite for Bordeaux lovers, consistently performing well above its price point among the greats of Pomerol. This 2015 had all the hallmarks we associate with great vintages of this estate: purple fruit (like the label), wonderfully fresh and beautifully silky. Soils 60% grey clay, 40% sandy gravel; 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc; fermented in concrete tanks, aged for 18 months in 70% new and 30% second-use barrels. Gareth Birchley: Herbs and flowers, dark fruit, cherries. Very enticing. Beautiful silky texture, good balance and wonderful weight. Fine tannins and good length. Vincenzo Arnese: Great, lingering aromas. Riper fruit, very intense richness, good structure and body. The long finish is intense and ripe. Arthur Coggill: Blackcurrant leaf and slate minerality behind bright blackcurrant and plum. Very inviting. Firm, dominating tannins. Integrated, lifted acidity, a juicy palate. Needs time.

Aromas of tar, black olive skin and blackberries follow through to a full body. Ultra-fine tannins and a long, linear finish with super intensity. Well-crafted in every sense. A fabulous Pomerol for the future. Try in 2022.

Newly-arrived Technical Director Marielle Cazaux turned out a jewel of a wine at La Conseillante in 2015, her debut vintage. A polished and super-sophisticated Pomerol, La Conseillante is all class. Precise, lifted aromatics make a strong first impression, but it is the wine's overall feel and sense of harmony that truly dazzle. Over the last two years, the 2015 seems to have gained in freshness, precision and nuance. What a wine! The blend is 81% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc. Don't miss it.

Everything about this wine is Pomerol. From the floral, truffle, cocoa, and dark red fruit nose, all the way through to the silky, fresh, sensuous finish, this is what great Pomerol is all about. Drink from 2023-2050.

Deep, dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections and subtle rim brightening. Intense dark berries on the nose with underlying hints of candied violets and ripe plums, a mineral touch and some roasted aromas. Powerful on the palate with pronounced fruit, texture and fine tannins. Approachable and freshly structured, an elegant food companion with nougat on the finish. Definite further ageing potential.

Reminding me of the 2009, the 2015 La Conseillante is more overt and sexy compared to the 2016, offering a huge nose of mulled black fruits, spring flowers, chocolate and gravely/clay-like earthiness. This is a full-bodied, complex, elegant and layered 2015 that has a singular character and the class to drink well for 20-25 years.

81% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc. Rarely has a La Consteillante barrel sample shown such a dark color. Deep purple-garnet, dense at the core, with a lilac sheen at the rim. Wonderful blackberry-and-chocolate bouquet, expansive and nicely spicy. On the palate, you notice the floral Cabernet Franc, a velvety texture, and a beautiful malty sweetness in the full, melting extract; it finishes elegantly and could gain another point with age.

Wonderful blackberry-and-chocolate bouquet, expansive and with lovely spicy nuances. On the palate, you can sense the floral side of the Cabernet Franc, a velvety texture, a beautiful malty sweetness in the full, melting extract, finishing elegantly. With maturity, it could still gain another point.

Fresh, refined palate with very fine tannins; dense, powerful, sweet aromatics, an elegant structure, good fruit, and a long, fragrant finish. Can still improve. 18/20 2023 - 2040

Love the juicy expression of brambled fruit, blackberry and black cherry, freshly cut herbs, cocoa bean, pomegranate, crushed rocks, woodsmoke, creamy but with enough steps on the brakes to keep the exuberance in check. Has further blossomed since I last tasted in 2021. 75% new oak, first year with Marielle Cazeaux as director and winemaker. 39.5hl/h yield.

The 2015 La Conseillante is composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with bombastic notes of baked blackberries, stewed plums, and Morello cherries, plus suggestions of lilacs, chocolate box, and potpourri. Full-bodied, concentrated, and decadent, the palate is jam packed with blackberry and perfumed layers, framed by ripe, firm, plush tannins and lovely tension, finishing very long and perfumed.

A revolution in the details: everything that gives La Conseillante its incomparable charm is here—its fragrance, its slender elegance, its brilliance on the palate, its freshness and silky tannins—yet with an extra hint of intensity and persistence. In the end, this is a truly unforgettable wine and a marvel of refinement.

A great deal of finesse and nuance: you are fully immersed in the estate’s distinctive style. The mouthfeel releases a velvety, heady fruit, never heavy in structure, though the alcohol richness slightly dominates the finish.

A lovely spicy nose with fine aromas. The wine is dense and fairly tannic. The clay component and the old-vine terroir responded very well, resulting in a relatively powerful tannic framework. The wine is a little less creamy than usual, with greater length and a nice lift on the finish. A wine built for long aging. 40% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel. It was aged with 70% new oak barrels. The grand vin accounts for 75% of production, with a yield of 39 hl/ha. 14.5% alcohol, pH 3.7. 81% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc.

Logo on the cork: inverted T (Trescases) Deep color, slightly developed. The nose starts out a bit restrained, then becomes superb with aeration, showing fresh, creamy and complex nuances. Meticulous in texture from the attack, the wine settles in the mid-palate and doesn’t want to leave it. Then it melts and lingers for a long time, very refined. Superb!
