    Vinum

Ripe-fruited yet remarkably fresh, dark fruit, cherry, with citrus notes as well; structured, with firm tannins, crisp fruit and impressive length, the wine finishes fresh with a saline finale.

    James Molesworth

Delivers extroverted fruit, with cassis and plum purée notes leading the way, backed by the vintage’s savory austerity, though the fruit wins out fairly easily. Reveals pretty floral and red tea accents that glide through on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2036. 1,600 cases made.

    James Suckling

Blueberries, dark chocolate, lavender and sage aromas follow through to a medium body with polished and refined tannins that are integrated but give a sense of strength and muscular tone. Elegance with structure. Closed now, it needs time to soften. Exceptional for the vintage. Better after 2028.

The 2021 La Mondotte has a satisfying, floral bouquet, with iris and peony infusing the black cherry and blueberry aromas. There is just a touch of wet clay in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Crisp red cherry fruit laced with blood orange leads to a poised, citric finish that lingers on the palate. While not the best La Mondotte I have tasted, it does convey a sense of vitality, and it should drink well for up to 15 years, possibly more.

Flowers, citrus, black raspberries, plums, wet earth, herbs, and salty crushed stones define the perfume, as well as the core of the wine. On the palate, the wine is bright, fresh, chalky, vibrant, and mineral, giving the fruit a salty edge, enhancing its medium-bodied, bright character. The wine blends 85% Merlot with 15% Cabernet Franc. Normally, La Mondotte is a wine that requires aging before it truly begins to express itself. However, you can enjoy this within a year or two of release. Drink from 2026–2048.

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Deep ruby, opaque core, purple hues on a bright narrow rim. Fresh dark wild berries, hints of redcurrants, red cherries and candied orange zest. Medium-bodied, red berry fruit, textured, fine silky tannins, salty finish with a hint of blackcurrant. A lighter-bodied style.

Based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 50% new barrels, the 2021 La Mondotte is another floral, perfumed, impressive wine. Red and black raspberries, spring flowers, rose petals, and chalky minerality all define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied, with fine yet present tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. I’d certainly love a glass today, but it will ideally be given 3-5 years of bottle age and will put a smile on your face any time over the following 15+ years.

La Mondotte 2021 showcases its magnificent terroir with subtle grandeur and chalky freshness; this Saint-Émilion is perfectly composed. Dark colour. Sweet, intense and ripe on the nose, broad and expansive, complex and all-encompassing. On the palate, it also presents as a dense, fresh, broad and extremely deep Saint-Émilion with great structure and chalky salinity. Finely woven tannins, endlessly wide and long-stretching.

    La RVF

A well-styled La Mondotte, with great elegance. It combines the pedigree of the terroir, the freshness of the vintage and the winemaker’s seductive signature. Often impenetrable in its youth, this very clear cru is surprisingly approachable at this stage, even plush. Nonetheless, it seems poised to evolve serenely. We certainly won’t deny ourselves the pleasure.

    Le Figaro Vin

A nose of very ripe red fruits (macerated, stewed strawberries). On the palate, a burst of fruity energy—tangy and concentrated—accompanied by great freshness that lingers on the finish.

    Yves Beck

La Mondotte 2021 has character; it is hardly exorbitant or showy—finesse is its guiding thread, with, among other things, nuances of peony, raspberry, and cocoa bean. The vintage certainly plays a role, as do the winemaking and aging choices. The attack is slender and elegant, while the acid structure takes over and backs it up, lending freshness and temperament. A tight yet elegant wine, sapid, with a mouthwatering, persistent finish. A great success.

    Decanter

Lovely ripe raspberry and strawberry flavours with pink floral scents, really appealing aromatics jumping out the glass. Smooth and so vibrant, such vivacity, the brightness coming through strongly with such a brilliantly textured mid palate - it's silky but with concentration and intensity yet also an aerial feel to this. You got the depth and density without the weight. Crunchy, crisp, totally joyous. No hiding here, a pure expression. Not heavily structured but I love the energy, so fruity but also with a salinity on the finish that peaks the interest. One I definitely wanted another glass of. Gorgeous presentation of the terroir and the overall purity on show is commendable. No mildew or frost in 2021. A yield of 45hl/ha. Certified organic.
