The Elegance and Freshness of a Great White Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The Estate
Located in France, at the heart of the Rhône Valley, Château La Nerthe is a historic estate whose origins date back to 1560 with the acquisition of the Grange de Beauvenir. Owned by the Richard family of wine and coffee merchants since 1985 and now managed by Rémi Jean, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of 92 hectares. A pioneer in vineyard restoration, this benchmark estate produces wines renowned for their elegance, while standing out for its strong commitment to organic farming and agroecology.
The Vineyard
The 92-hectare vineyard, entirely classified under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, is divided between plots forming a single block around the château and others located on the La Crau plateau. This mosaic of 57 micro-terroirs rests on a wide diversity of soils: Astian sand, Alpine quartz pebbles, rolled pebbles, clay and silt. The Mediterranean climate, swept by the Mistral wind, is tempered by natural springs and wooded areas that lend the vines a unique freshness. The estate has been farmed organically since 1998, complemented by agroecological practices such as eco-grazing, the use of plant-based infusions and the preservation of biodiversity. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand.
The Vintage
The 2008 vintage in the southern Rhône Valley is characterised by a classic style. Less hot and sun-drenched than other years, it offered climatic conditions that allowed for lovely freshness and good fruit ripeness, without excessive heat.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winemaking of this white wine is geared towards achieving an elegant balance. Ageing is managed with precision to structure the wine while preserving its aromatic profile and freshness.
Grape Varieties
Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc.
