Truffles, espresso, violets, and chocolate-coated black plums, with a touch of spice, form the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, juicy, and plummy. There is freshness and lift to the energetic red pit fruits in the mid-palate, with a lot of concentration for the vintage, due to their low yields of only 16 hectoliters per hectare. Still a bit oaky, you will need some patience to allow the oak to better integrate into the wine. Harvesting took place September 9 - September 13. The wine was produced from 100% Merlot, 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2029-2045. 92-94 pts

Intense blackcurrant notes in the bouquet of Violette 2024, which also reveals hints of graphite, mint and eucalyptus with aeration. What a journey between freshness and ripeness! Rather slender on the attack, the wine creates a delightful symbiosis of charm and energy. Its compact tannins provide power, while fine bitterness underpins the freshness and aromatic expression of the finish… as well as the resulting persistence. An imposing wine that will need time.

(100% Merlot) The nose is elegant, aromatic, racy, precise and offers a lovely fleshy/finely textured feel, precision, depth and complexity. It reveals notes of blueberry and violet and, more subtly, cornflower, with touches of elegantly roasted cherry, hints of bright fruit, star anise, a delicate hint of lilac, graphene, discreet hints of camphor and a subtle chocolatey note. The palate is beautifully handled, fresh, supple, suave, offering creamy freshness, a zesty backbone, finesse, roundness, suppleness, indulgence, with very fine tang and freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry and bright purple plum, with touches of lily, fine hints of graphene, racy minerality, as well as hints of lilac, tonka bean and cocoa nibs. Good length and persistence. Plushness and a lovely finish. A subtle sweet note/Bourbon vanilla on the finish/persistence.

This has a ton of chiselled black fruit, great depth and silkiness. Lovely texture, lots of juice, bright blue fruits, creamy as it opens, soft incense and cedar oak. Long cold soak of 8 days (not unusual here), 100% new oak. Definitely keeps the estate signature. 100% integral vinification, and all de-stemmed by hand, 1.68ha.

Deep black colour. An intense, refined, pure nose—fruity and profound. Broad on the attack, meticulous through the mid-palate and highly aromatic, the wine melts across the palate, juicy and dense. Long, complex and noble. Bravo! 100% Merlot. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3. Yield: 16 hl/ha.

    Description

The delicacy and silkiness of a Pomerol wine

    The estate

Established in the 1950s, Château La Violette extends over 1.68 hectares on the Pomerol plateau in Bordeaux. Owned by the Péré-Vergé family since 2006, this estate takes its name from the characteristic violet aroma of its exceptional wines.

    The vineyard

The vineyard of Château La Violette enjoys a privileged location on the Pomerol plateau, planted on fine gravel soils. This 1.68-hectare terroir, of which 1.26 hectares are in production, is nestled between the prestigious châteaux Trotanoy and Le Pin. This exceptional terroir, with vines averaging 30 years of age complemented by a new planting of 7-year-old vines, gives the wines their unique character and remarkable ageing potential. Since the 2023 vintage, the bottom of the Château La Violette bottle has been tinted violet, a unique feature among the great wines of Bordeaux.

    Vinification and ageing

Vinification follows a rigorous protocol with manual destemming of the grapes. A pre-fermentation maceration at 6°C for 15 days precedes the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, carried out directly in new barrels. Ageing then continues for 14 months in "Saury Ecrin" barrels previously used for vinification, bringing complexity and structure to the wine.

    Grape variety

This Château La Violette 2024 is 100% Merlot.
