Château Laffitte Carcasset 2021

Black and red cherries, currants, mint leaf, and tobacco fill the bouquet. The palate delivers sweet, supple currants with a touch of peppery spice in an already approachable style. You can enjoy this easily upon release. Drink from 2024–2032.

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Fresh cherries, red berry nuances, delicate hints of redcurrants, a background of candied orange zest. Taut, lively, red cherries, integrated tannins, salty-mineral, good freshness, a lively food wine with certain ageing potential.

Medium depth of colour. Youthful aromas offering some leafy and herbal notes with red currant and sour cherry, a hint of wood. Medium weight, a slightly austere texture, grippy young tannin and elevated acidity, discreet red fruit flavours and moderate length.

Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and some Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Château Laffitte Carcasset is medium ruby-hued, with enjoyable notes of sappy herbs, spring flowers, and earthy red and black fruits. It's medium-bodied, balanced, has bright yet integrated acidity, and a good finish.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Laffitte Carcasset has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It skips out with notes of redcurrants and cranberries, followed by hints of Provence herbs, black pepper, and dried lavender. The light-bodied palate is racy and chewy, with delicate red berry flavors and an herbal finish.

The 2021 bouquet highlights several elements, starting with Cabernet Sauvignon. Inviting notes of eucalyptus and peppermint are complemented by aromas of blackcurrant and elderberry. On the palate, the wine convinces with its freshness as well as its density. It can clearly rely on the exceptional support of its terroir, delivering power and finesse through fine-grained tannins that even manage to be creamy… in 2021! If there is one wine that can embody the abilities of 2021 in appreciable quality spheres, it is Laffitte Carcasset! It may struggle to fully express fruit on the finish, but the substance is definitely there. The fruit begins to emerge over the minutes; you just need a bit of patience. Patience pays off!

Here, a fine combination of fruit, density and verve. An absolutely delicious attack, a smooth palate focused on red fruit, with a good tannic framework delivering a delicate acidity. The blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 5% cabernet franc makes for a complete wine with solid potential. With aeration, darker fruit comes to the fore—plum, blackcurrant—as well as iris and hyacinth. Seductive.

Ripe and heady nose. Juicy and upfront initially, though the fine tannins with their mineral grip do come in and shut the fruit-forward character down fairly swiftly. There’s a nice weight to the palate, and an unctuous quality at the start; it just stops a little short as the other elements take over. There’s also a chalky texture to the palate, with a dryness like eating lots of cherry skins—mouthfilling and dominant.

Dating back to 1759, this estate was named after Jean Laffitte, the king's Bordeaux wine buyer. The wine is structured with firm tannins and a solid base for the blackberry fruits. Drink this fine wine from 2027.

The 2021 Laffitte-Carcasset is terrific. Rich and layered, with terrific depth, the 2021 has a lot to offer. Succulent red cherry fruit, orange peel, cinnamon, mint and dried flowers build effortlessly in the glass. Commendable.
