    Vinum

Delicate bouquet, noble roasted notes, floral tones, herbs, blond tobacco; a refined, fruity palate showing elegance, with delicate, sweet fruit, well-judged oak, fine-grained tannins, sour cherries and white pepper on the finish. Authentic, fresh, with verve and charm.

    Decanter

Strongly scented aromatics on the nose — cassis, clove, liquorice and dried herbs. Calm and controlled, this has a nice weight and balance — medium acidity meets concentrated fruit with softly gripping tannins. Balanced and harmonious, no one element sticks out. A mixture of black and blue fruit with a salty undercurrent, some cola touches, liquorice and a blood-iron tang on the finish. Already feels quite drinkable, if still a little fully charged in terms of tension and concentration.

This fragrant and layered red has notes of roasted black fruit, coffee beans, violets and dried chilis. It’s full-bodied but very fresh, with sleek and polished tannins and a long finish. Try from 2027.

60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample. Dark crimson. Muted nose. Very sweet, soft start. Where’s the structure? Just a little acid and tannin on the end but this doesn’t have quite enough interest for me. A fairly simple wine and a bit short. But not unpleasant! (JR)

The 2022 Laroze is a very pretty, understated Saint-Émilion. Kirsch, mocha, sweet spice and pipe tobacco are some of the notes that grace this soft, inviting wine from Laroze. Silky contours wrap it all together, conferring finesse and immediacy. This is very nicely done.

Flowers, tobacco leaf, licorice, cherries, and plums create the perfume. Fresh and vibrant are the keywords here, with creamy tannins and lush red cherries on the finish. Drink from 2026–2042.

    Falstaff

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Delicate liquorice, some graphite, black forest berries, a light touch of nougat. Medium complexity, ripe plums, subtle acidity, mineral, fine fruitiness on the finish, offering uncomplicated drinking pleasure.

Rocking levels of black cherries, spicy herbs, tobacco, and cedar all shine in the 2022 Château Laroze, a medium- to full-bodied, juicy, lively 2022 that has balanced tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. A blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 70% new oak, it will drink nicely through 2042.

Crushed roses and redcurrant, plenty of vivid fruit character and lift, enjoyable, not overly sweet, errs on the side of savory blue and black fruits, still with plenty of depth through the mid-palate, good stuff, a wisp of gunsmoke on the finish. 65% new oak, with the rest in jars and stainless steel. 27ha of vines around the château, Gurchy family back to 1610, now Gurchy-Meslin.

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense, beautiful color. Very aromatic nose with fresh, ripe, and subtle fruit. Supple on the attack, highly perfumed mid-palate with a delicate touch; this fleshy wine carries through to a suave finish, displaying classy texture and a pulpy softness. It is all about precision and smoothness. Blend: 60% merlot, 30% cabernet franc, 10% cabernet sauvignon. Alcohol: 14% - pH: 3.6. Yield: 37 hl/ha.

Shows the warmth of the vintage, with a plum sauce– and blackberry reduction–filled core leading the way, all wrapped in black licorice and Black Forest cake notes. Flashes of violet and apple wood enliven the finish just enough. For the hedonist crowd. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2036. 8,125 cases made.

    Description

A complex and delicate Saint-Émilion wine

    The estate

The current owners of Château Laroze, the Meslin family, are direct descendants of the founders of the Laroze estate in 1882. This age-old lineage has enabled Château Laroze to build a unique wine identity in the heart of Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.

    The vineyard

Château Laroze 2022 is a Saint-Émilion wine made from a 27-hectare vineyard facing north-west at the foot of the hillside. The vines are on average 25 years old and are planted on a soil composed of silica on clay.

    Winemaking and ageing

Vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. Ageing took place in French oak barrels (of which 65% were new), in vats and in amphorae.

    Blend

Château Laroze 2022 is a blend of Merlot (62%), Cabernet Franc (28%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8%).
