    Description

The intensity and refinement of a Pessac-Léognan red wine

    The estate

Superbly located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Larrivet Haut-Brion shines south of Bordeaux. The estate regained its letters of nobility after being acquired in 1987 by the Gervoson family, who are dedicated with passion and enthusiasm to producing wines of character and extreme elegance.

    The vineyard

From 17 hectares of vines in 1987, this estate in Pessac-Léognan has grown to 61 hectares in a few years, following the acquisition of new vineyard plots and new plantings. The vineyard is established on the middle terrace of the Graves of Bordeaux. The soils are therefore highly gravelly, clayey and sandy. These hillsides benefit from excellent exposure and are ideally drained.

    The vintage

The winter was cold and dry, punctuated by a rainy spell between February and March. April saw a historically intense frost, but the return of spring in May favored a flowering that was both early and rapid. Summer, on the other hand, was characterized by exceptional drought.

    Winemaking and aging

Plot-by-plot vinification in small, temperature-controlled concrete tanks with gravity feeding. Destemming is carried out without crushing. Regular pump-overs accompany long macerations (4 to 5 weeks). Aging takes place for one-third each: in new French oak barrels, in barrels of one wine and in barrels of two wines for 14 to 18 months.

    Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Cabernet Franc (23%), Merlot (12%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Larrivet Haut-Brion 2017

    Tasting

    Color
Deep and clear color, radiant dark red.

    Nose
The first nose seduces with its intensity, revealing fine toasted notes of cedar and mocha, subtly enveloped by discreet floral aromas. Upon aeration, the bouquet gains precision and reveals an elegant note of violet.

    Palate
The attack is soft and velvety, quickly evolving towards aromas of licorice and black fruits. On the palate, the texture is silky, supported by caressing tannins. Smoky nuances, characteristic of the LHB terroir and the dominance of Cabernets, come fully to the fore. The finish is straight and perfectly balanced, suggesting great aging potential.
