    Description

A complex and generous Pauillac Grand Cru Classé

    The estate

Situated at the entrance of Pauillac, Château Lynch Bages is an estate that has left its mark on the history of the Médoc wine region. Although the terroir of Bages has been known since the 16th century, it wasn’t until the 18th century that it gained its recognition. With the son of an Irish citizen named Thomas Lynch at the helm, the Bages wine was recognised at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Château Lynch-Bages became part of the J-M Cazes family on the eve of the Second World War and is one of the finest references among fine Pauillac wines.

Constantly seeking excellence and innovation, Château Lynch-Bages carried out a new plot division in 2006, breaking down 90 original plots used for the production of wine into 180 to 200 sub-plots. The 2020 vintage is the first vintage to be made in Château Lynch-Bages’ brand new infrastructures. Designed by the architect Chien Chung (Didi) Pei, internationally renowned for his pure architectural style, this new vat room and ageing cellar are state-of-the-art tools designed to enhance the terroir of this iconic Pauillac estate through a masterful vinification process.

    The vineyard

An essential reference among fine Pauillac wines, Château Lynch-Bages watches over a 90-hectare vineyard planted on Garonne gravel. The homogeneous geology of the terroir provides the vines with a good supply of water in an area that enjoys a moderate climate.

    The vintage

With similar alcohol levels and tannins to the 2009 vintage, this 2010 Lynch-Bages differs from the very sunny 2009 by its higher acidity resulting from the lower temperatures and cooler nights, compared to the previous year. The low rainfall, combined with mild temperatures, led to the development of small and concentrated grapes, rich in pigments and tannins which still maintain a great aromatic freshness.

    Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting and selective sorting in the vineyard. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels (70% new oak).

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (79%)
    Merlot (18%)
    Cabernet Franc (2%)
    Petit Verdot (1%).
