Description
A red Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé from a great vintage
A Grand Cru Classé well known to lovers of Pessac-Léognan on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Malartic-Lagravière produced an outstanding vintage in 2018. In what the estate describes as a "two-phase" year, with a very wet first half of the season followed by an exceptionally dry second half, all the key conditions for making a great wine ultimately came together: good flowering, a hot, dry summer, a dry late season with cool nights, and good water reserves… The grapes were in impeccable health at harvest and were picked at perfect ripeness, in keeping with the style sought by the estate.
To produce the 2018 red Château Malartic-Lagravière, the estate chose a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Following vinification in small, temperature-controlled, truncated-cone vats made of wood and stainless steel, the wines are aged on fine lees in French oak barrels, 70% of which are new.
Strongly marked by black fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant, the 2018 Château Malartic-Lagravière red is a very well-balanced wine with firm tannins and real density. This red Pessac-Léognan has a dense texture and great ripeness. Aromas of chocolate, balsamic vinegar and spice lend it lovely aromatic complexity, along with a long, flavourful finish.
