The 2016 Chateau Montus exhales a fresh, dense bouquet of dark wild berries, menthol, spices and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it is somewhat less structured than Bouscassé Vieilles Vignes, presenting a round and enveloping texture with a delicate, fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and powdery tannins. Comprising 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, it concludes with a long, tense finish and an ethereal aftertaste.

Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, peppercorn, dried herbs and spices. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Savory and spiced finish. Drink or hold.

Tannat with Cabernet Sauvignon on slopes with rounded pebbles. Three- to six-week fermentation/maceration and then aged for 12 to 14 months in barriques (80% new). Healthy, not impenetrable crimson. Attractive amalgam of aromas in the ripe, intense Cabernet-family spectrum. Then really quite luscious fruit on the palate with only light grip on the finish. Light meatiness around a firm spine. Very fresh and already broachable – with food. (JR)

    Terre de Vins

Intense, fresh, exuberant aromatics. Jammy strawberry, black cherry and blackberry. The palate is lively and juicy, carried by fine-grained tannins and offering remarkable suppleness. We love this energetic wine, both indulgent and easy-drinking, underpinned by a heady, alluring voluptuousness. A delicious vintage, very invigorating, with plenty of sap on the finish, slightly tightened by the tannic framework.

    Description

Château Montus 2016: a red wine with great roundness

Château Montus is produced in the Madiran appellation. Aged 30 years on average, the vineyard benefits from steep slopes with round pebbles and subsoils of brown and orange clay. The wine is aged in barrels for 12 to 14 months depending on the year. The 2016 vintage blends 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2016 vintage at Château Montus saw a mild winter and spring, which led to an early development of the vine. The summer, more lukewarm and rather dry, slowed down the evolution of the vine. However, the rain in September managed to perfect the ripening of the grapes, picked at the perfect moment.

The Château Montus 2016 displays a style typical to the property, showing itself to be rich, elegant and deep. It develops harmonious aromas of red fruits, along with subtle peppery notes and a woody vanilla. The wine shows a beautiful maturity and roundness on the palate.
