Château Petit-Village 2015

A gutsy style, with lightly roasted fig, plum and blackberry fruit flavors matched to brambly, slightly chewy grip. An ample dose of ganache and roasted alder drives the finish. The pieces are there, but this needs time in the cellar. Best from 2023 through 2033. 2,583 cases made.

93–95. Barrel Sample. There is a fine touch of perfume here along with the generous flavors. Spice, smoky aromas and blackberry fruits are forward in this rounded, opulent wine that shows an extra push in quality from this estate.

Finesse on both the nose and the palate, which exudes subtle charm and wet stone aspects. It needs a bit of time to open up, but has refinement. A blend of 75% Merlot, with 18% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cedary oak adds spices to pristine plums and dark berries. Terrific clarity and allure. The palate delivers a seamless and fluid build of smooth tannins, carrying bright cherries, plums and dark chocolate through to a deeply classy finish. Superb. Best from 2020.

Greyish crimson. Not particularly expressive but the fruit is dark and very pure. Chocolate-smooth tannins are rounded yet nicely dry. Extremely fine texture, all pleasure to come. Excellent balance promises much. (JH)

Black truffle aromas are starting to come out, along with bitter chocolate and black cherries. Medium bodied, soft and polished, the wine is almost ready to drink, perhaps just a few years in the cellar is all you need to add even more softness to the texture.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, delicate bright rim. Ripe and seductive cherry fruit, pleasant spicy notes, dark berry fruit in the background. Juicy, elegant texture, pronounced fruit body, refined structure, velvety and long lasting, fresh, mineral finish, it has secure ageing potential.

Notes of cassis, crushed violets, spice, and distinct minerality emerge from the 2015 Château Petit-Village, and this Merlot dominated blend (there’s 10% Cabernet Franc) is medium to full-bodied, elegant, and seamless on the palate. With fine, polished tannin, the freshness and purity that’s the hallmark of the vintage, and integrated tannin, it’s a rock-star of a Pomerol to drink anytime over the coming 20+ years.

Deep purple-garnet color, concentrated at the core. From the nose, it already shows great Pomerol class: not simply fruity, but also offering floral spicy notes (Cabernet Franc!), with a very harmonious overall impression. On the palate, charm and finesse, but also power. Among the best on the plateau, with equally strong competition.

Silky, elegant, fragrant palate with delicate fruit, fine tannins, a varied, sweet aromatic profile, a finely structured frame, and a long, fresh finish. Can improve further. 17/20 2023 - 2038

A fresh, velvety finish with a distinguished length. This wine has charm.

Despite fairly pronounced oak, Petit-Village 2015 was seductive, spicy and mentholated. Ample on the attack, with a fairly seamless mid-palate and less rusticity on the finish.

The colour is very deep, with a lovely, highly expressive nose of liquorice and spices. The wine is dense and tightly knit, with plenty of generous substance; the overall impression is both compact and elegant, with a fine tannic structure. A lovely wine. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.

Deep garnet red with violet highlights. The nose of Petit-Village 2015 is very inviting and reveals several facets, with notes of ripe fruit and spices. Surprisingly fresh for a vintage known to be warm. A pleasant, juicy and compact attack. The wine shows a fine tannic structure that holds the whole together, along with an acidity that brings the necessary freshness—no easy feat in 2015. A wine with character, beautifully balancing sunny ripeness and freshness. Persistent finish. This Petit-Village will need time.

Deep, intense colour with slight maturity. Discreet, fruity nose. Broad on the attack and flavoursome on the mid-palate, the wine stretches out to a full finish, with citrus notes and a touch of astringency. Good length.
