    Decanter

Sweet exotic spices on the nose, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, sweet orange rind – it smells wonderful. Chalky tannins are at the fore right now alongside juicy blackcurrant fruit and soft salinity. Great freshness, the acidity is high, touching on mouth watering while the tannins come in to support and cool mint takes effect. There's a real minerality to this also which gives a clean feeling to the finish. Each element feels well handled and presented, there's lots going on. Fine, precise and focused with just a touch of austerity that will soften in time.

    James Suckling

Plum, mushroom and bark aromas with some wet earth. It’s medium- to full-bodied with round, medium-chewy tannins that are polished and creamy in nature. Vivacious tannins. Very young and delectable at the same time. Try after 2025.

The 2019 Petit-Village is soft, creamy and open-knit, all of which give it quite a bit of appeal. Succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, spice and menthol are pushed forward in this decidedly open-knit, soft Pomerol. The 2019 has come together quite well during élevage.

Medium-bodied, fresh, bright, soft and silky, focused on red cherries and plums, with accents of flowers, truffle, licorice and spice. The finish continues with its core of earthy, soft, fresh, silky fruits and hints of cocoa, spice and earth on the finish. Drink from 2023-2041.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, discreet bright rim. Fresh cherries, delicate herbs and fine oak, a hint of nougat. Chocolatey, dark berries, vivid, well-integrated tannins, roasted aromas on the finish, long length, still very youthful, shows baby fat, will benefit from ageing.

Mild notes of oak and butterscotch with floral red fruit, rather ample with a fairly high tannic backbone, a slight firmness with sweet red fruit flavors and fine length. A tight, youthful wine to drink after 2024.

Based on 75% Merlot with the balance Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Château Petit-Village offers a spicy, already complex, medium- to full-bodied style with notes of mulled red and black fruits, cedary herbs, loamy earth, and chocolate. More restrained and elegant now from bottle than from barrel, it’s still beautifully textured, with ripe, supple tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish. It’s another awesome Pomerol to drink any time over the next 15–20 years.

80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% ABV, 40 hl/ha. Dense ruby. What a delicate, filigreed fragrance of red cherries, wild strawberries and violets. Also red fruit compote and hints of rosewood. On the palate, plush and generous, with a supportive tannic frame, balanced verve and ripe extract sweetness, with a gentle astringency. The focused finish shows red-berry contours, reminiscent of a violin concerto: “Grand forte,” and it still has room to grow!

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 Petit-Village, a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, is deep garnet-purple in color. It is a little closed to begin, opening out to reveal notes of crushed black and red cherries, baked plums, and dusty soil, plus wafts of cumin seed and tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is chewy and savory, packed with muscular black fruits and with oodles of freshness, finishing on a fragrant earth note.

    Bettane+Desseauve

A silky texture on the attack and a satiny feel through the mid-palate and on the finish. A fine showcase of refinement, with a lovely floral note on the return—subtle and deep.

    Le Figaro Vin

The nose, initially reserved, reveals itself as generous and fruity, sensual and penetrating. On the palate, sap and minerality deliver an exquisite texture that lingers on a long cacao-driven finish.

    Yves Beck

Maturation ranges from 16 to 18 months, with 30% new barrels and 70% barrels of one wine. The bouquet is fruity, with good intensity, showing a fine balance between notes of blackberry and peppermint, followed by a hint of cocoa beans. The attack is indulgent and inviting. The wine has body, with perfectly integrated silky tannins and a structure that offsets the suave character of the attack. A fully realized Petit-Village, long on the palate, perfectly combining charm, density and freshness.

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense, and vibrant color. Moderately aromatic and fruity nose. Delicate on the attack, flavorful mid-palate, the wine caresses the palate. It develops into a juicy, melting texture with plenty of flavor, leading to a seamless finish with a pleasant creamy nuance. Good length.
