The estate

Founded in 1756 by architect Jean Laclotte, Château Picque Caillou is a historic estate located in Mérignac, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. This urban vineyard, a true bastion of viticulture preserved against the city's expansion, underwent a major qualitative renewal under the guidance of the Calvet family in the late 1990s. Today, Laurent Marti owns this estate, renowned for its authenticity. He brings a new dynamic to the property while honouring its exceptional heritage.

The vineyard

Spanning approximately 25 to 26 hectares, this estate is one of the very last urban vineyards in the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Located at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, it benefits from an exceptional terroir made up of Günzian gravel. These warm soils, composed of sand and rounded pebbles, are particularly well-drained and low in organic matter. They store heat during the day and release it at night, offering ideal conditions for optimal grape ripening.

Winemaking and ageing

The making of this vintage reflects a constant pursuit of precision and elegance. After the winemaking process, the wine is aged for twelve months in barrels. The moderate use of new oak, accounting for 20%, allows the wine's structure to be harmoniously supported without ever masking the pure expression of its terroir.
