Château Poesia 2020

Same owners as Barde-Haut on slightly cooler clay-limestone soils; the tannins are a little angular, but there is a ton of liquorice, damson and violet notes. It is poised even though broad-shouldered. 60% new oak.

This has a complex nose of plums, blackcurrants, chocolate, hazelnuts and violets. Licorice. Crushed stones and green olives, too. Fragrant and layered, with a medium to full body, fine tannins and excellent freshness. Sophisticated and elegant Saint‑Émilion. Drink from 2026.

The 2020 Poesia is superb, just as it was from barrel. Black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice, cedar and mocha infuse this broad, ample Saint-Émilion with remarkable complexity. This is an especially dense, full-throttle Saint-Émilion, but it all works so well.

Black plums, chocolate, licorice, flowers and espresso create the nose. From there you find a rich, fresh, vibrant, creamy-textured, concentrated and mineral-driven wine with a long, intense, refined finish, with layers of mineral-driven dark red fruits, spices, cocoa and savory herbs in the chalky endnote. Drink from 2023–2050.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, faint brightening on the rim. Candied purple fruit, a hint of liquorice, black wild berries, discreet noble wood savouriness. Complex, substantial, a whiff of fig, elegant and freshly structured, ripe tannins, fine nougat, mineral and adherent, with definite ageing potential.

Based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château Poesia has a wonderful purity and freshness in its ripe blue fruits, tobacco, cedar, and spring flower-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it has good acidity, ultra-fine tannins, beautiful overall balance, and just a classy, seamless, incredibly elegant profile. It's another gorgeous wine from this incredible team.

The 2020 Poesia is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It sings of wild blueberries, redcurrant jelly and black raspberries, with hints of red roses, crushed rocks, and fertile loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly wound with fine-grained tannins supporting the vibrant red and black fruit layers, finishing on a persistent perfumed note.
