Château Suduiraut 2013

Delicate aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits, great density, structure and length: one of the greatest Suduiraut we have ever tasted, with finesse, harmony and substance.

This is on the exotic side of the ledger, with mouthfilling ginger, mango, quince and papaya flavors that course through, backed by a singed marshmallow note on the long, unctuous finish. Approachable, but no hurry. Drink now through 2033. 5,000 cases made.

Fresh and zesty with an almost minty-herbal edge. Deceptively rich as well (150 g/L RS). Sweet attack on the palate, then long and linear on the finish. The acidity is present but wrapped in fruit.

This is phenomenal with superb depth and texture. Full-bodied and very sweet, yet the bright acidity balances the wine out. Creamy mouthfeel with phenolic undertones. Great finish. This wine has a great future. Better in 2021, but already great.

Honey, white flowers, a delicious fragrance and plenty of caramel on the finish. Impressive volume and fatness, but fairly limited in complexity. (RH)

A superb wine! Luscious textures, fat, rich, honeyed tropical fruits and vanilla, and candied lemon peel on the nose. Sweet and spicy on the palate, with a beautiful, fresh finish of honeyed tropical fruit, vanilla, and candied citrus rind.

Medium deep golden colour. Still a youthful nose with some roasted and oak-derived notes with vanilla, saffron and tropical fruit. The palate is dense and unctuous with layers of tropical fruit, well integrated acidity, fine spices, vanilla, saffron, fine oak and a very long, viscous finish, a powerful style but keeps together well.

92% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc. Medium-deep yellow, quite intense, with a bright rim. Lots of ripe fruit, in cooked and dried form, honey, apricot, peach, still hints of yeast and vanillin. Rich, opulent, creamy-sweet palate; the sweetness and fresh acidity balance each other and give the wine impressive length, likely due to the 145 grams of residual sugar. Certainly ranks among the great Suduirauts.

Dense, creamy, closed, mineral bouquet with dried apricots, cooked pears, Alka-Seltzer, almonds, Araldite, honey. Dense, creamy, balanced and multifaceted palate with a velvety texture, powerful, ample sweetness, concentrated aromatics, very good acidity, and a very long, dense, opulent finish with excellent lingering aromas. Pale to medium straw-gold in color, the 2013 Suduiraut slides seductively out of the glass with opulent notions of Seville orange marmalade, apricot preserves, and allspice, followed by wafts of jasmine tea, chamomile, and almond croissant. The palate is decadently rich yet light on its feet, with intense exotic spice and stone fruit preserves flavors and a very long finish.

Close to the preignac-style perfection, combining a slightly fresher fruit reminiscent of the great barsacs with the opulence of the haut-bommes.

Straw-colored robe and a lovely honeyed nose. The palate is supple and round, a bit soft, but with beautiful substance and impressive complexity on the finish.

Brilliant as ever—and this is only the beginning! This 2013 shines with complexity and diversity. It stands out by creating an exceptional symbiosis between subtlety and richness, between finesse and breadth. Smooth and creamy, the wine is above all fresh, harmonious, and driven by an acidity that will carry it throughout its entire life. And it will be a long one. An extraordinary wine!

The nose is fruity, aromatic, and offers intensity as well as concentration. It reveals notes of vanilla, candied lemon and pineapple in syrup/roasted, together with hints of toasted oak, peach blossom, nuts, honey, and discreet touches of almond/brioche. The palate is fruity, balanced, well-crafted, fine, quite precise, and offers lovely density/richness, freshness, good definition, a charming roundness, a fine creaminess, a juicy backbone, delicate acidity, and some fat. On the palate, this wine shows notes of vanilla, pear in syrup and candied lemon, combined with touches of pineapple in syrup/roasted, quenette, a subtle hint of mandarin jam, quince, as well as fine notes of honey, toast, and almond. Golden color. Fruity nose. Rich, silky palate that becomes flavorful and, above all, complex mid-palate. The wine develops with very fruity, suave notes, leading to a finish of good length that’s quite hard to spit. It’s best when decanted at the last minute.

A strongly spicy nose that matches the power of Suduiraut’s terroir. With aeration, the wine asserts itself through an exhilarating salinity, while still offering a fine, luscious texture with remarkably pure fruit.

94–96. Barrel Sample. Full and rich, this is a powerful wine. It's packed with botrytis-driven flavors of wild honey and peach, balanced by tight acidity. For long-term aging.
