    Description

The character of a great red Australian wine

    The estate

Located around 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, north of McLaren Vale, Clarendon Hills has become a benchmark for Australian wines over the years. Founded in 1990 by Roman Bratasiuk, a leading Romanian winemaker, the estate produces great wines from pre-phylloxera vines. In a constant quest for excellence, Clarendon Hills follows a low-interventionist philosophy and, through expert vinification, produces great wines that authentically express the typicity of their terroir of origin.

    The vineyard

The McLaren Vale vineyard, located in the heart of South Australia, is renowned for its Mediterranean climate. The terroir of the Clarendon wine-growing area is made up of a mosaic of soils (sandy-clay, schist, quartz), distributed according to the altitude of the plots. The proximity of the ocean moderates the climate and adds a slight salinity to these distinctive wines.

The grape varieties are Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Syrah Piggott Range Vineyard 2001 from Clarendon Hills

Ample and powerful on the palate, with notes of black fruit and herbs. Discreet on the fruit, this wine favours the expression of a subtly spicy, well-developed character. This old vintage can be enjoyed now.
