Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Commanderie Saint-Pierre la Garrigue Blanc 2022
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a bright, crystalline hue with great brilliance.
Nose
Powerful and complex, the nose exudes generous aromas of exotic fruits such as lychee, pineapple and pomegranate. It then opens onto buttery notes, acacia honey, lemon and apricot, subtly enhanced by a touch of vanilla and spice from its time in oak.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its remarkable minerality, bringing tension and freshness. The delicious notes of exotic fruits and brioche linger, supported by perfectly balanced acidity, soft tannins and delicately integrated oak.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with foie gras and figs, aged hard cheeses, or poultry in cream sauce. It also makes an excellent match for Asian dishes with sweet and spicy flavours.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, this wine should be served between 12 and 14°C. The Commanderie Saint-Pierre la Garrigue Blanc 2022 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably at least until 2030.
The mineral and complex expression of a white terroir from La Clape
The estate
Founded in the 12th century by the Order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, the Commanderie de Saint-Pierre la Garrigue is a historic estate located in Languedoc. After a long period of abandonment, the estate was reborn in 2005 thanks to the drive of Jehan de Woillemont, an eighth-generation winegrower. Now at the helm of the estate, he brings a sustainable vision, having certified the vineyard as organic since 2018. This estate thus combines a rich medieval heritage with contemporary winegrowing practices to produce wines that reflect the authenticity of their terroir.
The vineyard
Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea at an altitude of around forty metres, the vineyard stretches across the slopes of the La Clape massif. This exceptional terroir benefits from a refreshing maritime influence and protection from local winds such as the Cers and the Tramontane. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils dating back to the Cretaceous period, dotted with white pebbles that promote thermal reflection and give the wines their distinctive minerality. The estate is home to rich biodiversity, combining garrigue scrubland, olive trees, almond trees and local wildlife, at the heart of a preserved ecosystem.
Winemaking and aging
After rigorous sorting and careful destemming, the vinification of the Commanderie Saint-Pierre la Garrigue Blanc 2022 begins mostly in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic freshness. The final third of the production ferments in 225- and 500-litre French oak barrels. Aging then continues in oak for eight months, with weekly lees stirring during the first two months to add complexity to the wine on its lees. The final blend is created after careful selection of each barrel.
