    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Auxey-Duresses 2023 by Domaine Comte Armand

    Tasting

    Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful red colour.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves deep, carried by notes of plum and blackberry. It then opens onto wonderfully fresh red fruit aromas, subtly complemented by touches of rose petals and liquorice, along with nuances evoking fresh earth and undergrowth.

    Palate
The palate offers a solid texture and beautiful density, supported by well-defined tannins with no hint of harshness. The expression proves elegant, sensual and fragrant, offering a superb balance between vibrant fruit and firm structure.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as duck or goose, as well as with offal, terrines or grilled meats. It also pairs very well with pasta dishes or meat risottos, soft or semi-hard cheeses such as brie or gruyère, and even rich seafood dishes such as a fish stew.

    Service and Storage
With its beautiful structure, this Auxey-Duresses 2023 has interesting aging potential that will allow it to develop its full complexity over the years.

    Other Characteristics
In order to preserve its full aromatic complexity and structural integrity, it is bottled without prior fining or filtration, which may result in the formation of a slight natural sediment.

The Elegance and Precision of a Great Burgundy Wine

    The Estate
Established in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Comte Armand was officially founded in 1828, following the union between Jean-François Armand and the daughter of winegrower Nicolas Marey. Today, the estate still belongs to a family member, a lawyer in Paris, who entrusts the technical management to passionate experts. Spanning a vineyard of around nine to ten hectares, the estate stands out for its pioneering commitment to the environment, applying the principles of organic and biodynamic farming since 1988 to reveal the purity of its terroirs.

    The Vineyard
The grapes come from plots located within the Auxey-Duresses appellation. Resting on east and southeast-facing terroir, the soil is made up of a mix of marl and limestone rich in stones. The vineyard is carefully cultivated through manual and mechanical ploughing. The vines, trained using the lyre system to optimise sun exposure, come from a mass selection to preserve genetic diversity and perfect adaptation to the terroir.

    The Vintage
The year stood out for very favourable weather conditions in Burgundy, offering both generous quantity and excellent quality. The growing cycle achieved balanced ripeness, without excessive heat, favouring the development of juice-laden berries.

    Winemaking and Aging
The making of this Auxey-Duresses 2023 begins with total destemming of the clusters. The intact berries undergo a cold maceration of five to eight days. Fermentation then starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, followed by a post-fermentation maceration, for a total skin contact time of around four weeks. Regular punching-down and pumping-over accompany this stage. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for eighteen to twenty-four months, with very moderate use of new wood to favour the authentic expression of the terroir.
