Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Riesling Grand Cru "Furstentum" 2022 Domaine Albert Mann
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals a straw-yellow hue of beautiful intensity, illuminated by brilliant highlights that underscore its maturity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet unfolds in successive layers, first offering citrus notes such as orange, green mandarin and linden blossom, mingled with touches of medlar and quince. Aeration releases nuances of marinated ginger, sourdough bread crust and green tea, enhanced by a mineral imprint evoking damp chalk and cold smoke.
Palate
Showing great precision, the palate rests on a texture of fine, powdery phenolics that provide an invigorating grip. The ample, ripe acidity forms a backbone that stretches the wine with dynamic tension. Flavours of white peach, vineyard peach, nashi pear and grapefruit intertwine perfectly with an earthy, saline minerality, offering a refreshing and perfectly balanced finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Riesling Grand Cru "Furstentum" pairs wonderfully with seafood and freshwater fish, such as pan-seared pikeperch served with fresh noodles and a light creamy sauce. It also enhances shellfish and oysters, as well as spring vegetable dishes such as asparagus. For cheese, saline pressed varieties like Comté or Gruyère are excellent choices.
Service and storage
Built to stand the test of time, the Riesling Grand Cru "Furstentum" 2022 boasts remarkable aging potential, capable of evolving favourably for ten to fifteen years at minimum, or even several decades. For optimal storage, it is recommended to keep it lying down in a dark, vibration-free place, at a constant temperature of around 13°C and a humidity level between 60 and 80%.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine has an alcohol content of 13.5% and a residual sugar level below 2 g/l. Its total acidity is 7.2 g/l, giving it remarkable precision.
The mineral, saline expression of a great white wine from Alsace
The estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to the seventeenth century, Domaine Albert Mann officially began estate bottling in 1947. Located in Alsace, France, this 25-hectare estate is now run by the Barthelmé family, with Jacky, Marie-Thérèse and Marie-Claire, supported by the new generation represented by Antoine and Pauline. Certified organic and then biodynamic, the estate stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach and its commitment to producing terroir-driven wines of great purity, establishing itself as a key reference in the region.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Kientzheim in Alsace, the terroir of Grand Cru Furstentum is characterised by steep, south-southeast-facing slopes. The vines, averaging around thirty years of age, flourish between 300 and 350 metres in altitude on highly qualitative limestone soils. This area benefits from a particularly cool microclimate, favouring slow berry ripening. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with regular ploughing, controlled cover cropping and the use of natural preparations to stimulate soil life.
The vintage
2022 stood out for its moderate rainfall and a rather dry growing season. The area's specific cool microclimate helped temper sugar accumulation while preserving high acidity, resulting in a slow, measured ripening ideal for the berries' aromatic development.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand, sequentially, plot by plot, to pick them at their optimal point of balance. The Riesling Grand Cru "Furstentum" 2022 is then fermented to achieve a fully dry profile, with no compromise, preserving all the tension and mineral purity derived from its limestone terroir.
