Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Givry Village 2024 from Domaine de la Ferté
Tasting
Appearance
The colour is a deep, brilliant purple-red, a sign of the impressive colour intensity of this village-level Pinot Noir.
Nose
The nose is generous, led by aromas of blackcurrant and small red fruits such as raspberry and morello cherry, before opening onto spicy notes of pepper and fresh mint.
Palate
The palate charms with harmonious tannins and perfectly integrated oak ageing, offering a silky balance that carries through to a lingering sensation of freshness.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs ideally with fine red meats served with mushroom sauces, such as beef fillet with morels, as well as poultry and feathered game enhanced with red fruits, like duck breast with cherries. It also goes very well with soft cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The Givry Village 2024 is best served at a temperature of 14 to 15°C. It can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2039.
A Givry Village from Domaine de la Ferté, Between Cistercian Heritage and Clay-Limestone Terroir
The Estate
Domaine de la Ferté was created in 1995, when Bertrand Devillard took over the historic vines of the Cistercian abbey of La Ferté in Givry, in Burgundy. It now belongs to the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey, Domaine des Perdrix and Domaine de la Garenne. The vineyard extends over approximately 6 hectares planted exclusively with high-density Pinot Noir, sustainably farmed. The estate stands out for its roots in historic climats such as Servoisine and for its consistent recognition in the leading wine guides.
The Vineyard
The Givry Village comes from the Chanevarie climat, which surrounds the Premiers Crus Servoisine and Cellier aux Moines. The Pinot Noir vines, with an average age of 35 years and planted at the Burgundian density of 10,000 vines per hectare, are rooted in clay-rich soils with a south-easterly exposure. This privileged position, on the edge of Premier Cru climats, gives this Givry a superior quality dimension.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes for the Givry Village 2024 are hand-harvested and hand-sorted, then macerated in open-top vats at controlled temperature for several days, with regular punching down to refine the extraction of tannins, aromas and colour. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with native yeasts, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place entirely in French oak barrels, some of them new, followed by a period in stainless steel tank before bottling.
