Description
Tasting Notes
Colour
This red wine reveals a deep ruby hue, tinged with garnet and purple highlights. The colour is remarkably clear and brilliant, with dense, thick legs forming along the glass.
Nose
The bouquet is one of immense richness. It opens with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant, underscored by delicate floral notes of violet. With aeration, more earthy notes of undergrowth, truffle and mushroom emerge, harmoniously blending with spicy nuances of black pepper, clove and fine leather.
Palate
The attack is broad, powerful and remarkably fresh. The rich, concentrated fruit rests on a firm yet perfectly silky tannic structure. The wine unfolds elegantly towards a fleshy, creamy finish of remarkable length.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with fine poultry such as roast Bresse chicken or pheasant. It also enhances mushroom and truffle-based dishes, such as risotto or a fricassee of porcini, as well as delicate red meats. As for cheese, a Coulommiers or a matured Cîteaux will pair perfectly.
Serving and Ageing
To fully appreciate La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole 2015, it is recommended to serve it between 16 and 18°C in a large Burgundy-style glass, taking care to open it several hours before tasting. With considerable ageing potential, this wine can continue to develop favourably in the cellar until around 2045.
The Depth and Complexity of an Iconic Burgundy Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1869 by Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a landmark name in Burgundy. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the estate spans 25.5 hectares of vines, almost entirely classified as Grand Cru. Now managed by Bertrand de Villaine, who continues the historic co-management between the Gaudin de Villaine and Leroy-Roch families, the estate stands out for its exceptionally precise biodynamic viticulture. Its wines, of absolute rarity, embody the purest and noblest expression of their terroirs.
The Vineyard
Located on a mid-slope, at an altitude of between 270 and 300 metres, the La Tâche climat covers 6.06 hectares. This monopole rests on brown, limestone-clay soils, which provide excellent drainage while retaining the necessary moisture. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, and has been Biodyvin certified since 2016. The soils are worked using horses, and the vines come from a rigorous massal selection, favouring small-berried plants to enhance aromatic concentration.
The Vintage
2015 benefited from particularly favourable weather conditions. A warm spring was followed by a very sunny summer, marked by moderate drought. These ideal conditions helped prevent disease and allowed for optimal ripening of sugars and phenolic compounds. The harvest, carried out late in early September, yielded very low volumes, producing small berries with thick, richly coloured skins.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes destined for La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole 2015 are hand-harvested and sorted with absolute rigour. Vinification is carried out entirely using whole-cluster grapes. Maceration lasts around three weeks, punctuated by gentle punching down and regular pumping over for measured extraction. The wine is then aged entirely in new oak barrels for 18 to 22 months. Bottling is carried out under high atmospheric pressure, in accordance with the lunar cycle.
