Domaine de la Solitude 2018

The Domaine de la Solitude 2018 Blanc—a blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon—prances out of the glass with showy notes of lemon meringue pie, lime cordial and orange blossoms plus suggestions of yuzu zest, shaved ginger and fresh pineapple. The elegantly crafted, medium-bodied palate delivers a great intensity of wonderfully pure, well-defined citrus and tropical fruit flavors, lifted by a racy line and finishing with a lingering spicy kick.

Racy and sleek in feel, with lime and lemon pith notes streaking along, pulling tarragon, honeysuckle and white peach flavors with them. Subtle chalky underpinning keeps it honest on the finish. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2026. 1,500 cases made.

This is a delicious white wine, unfussy and gentle, with curling white flowers, soft citrus, and rising freshness through the finish.

Green apples, grapefruit pith, fresh herbs, wet stones and a touch of white pepper. It’s medium- to full-bodied with bright acidity. Intense and flavorful, almost chewy, with excellent focus. Drink or hold.

The palate is well balanced with impressive weight and slightly waxy in texture, leading to a peppery finish. I appreciate the bitter edge to this Domaine de la Solitude Blanc. Beautiful notes of ripe lemon, pineapple, and honeyed lime, as well as a sense of salty minerality, emerge from the 2018 Domaine De La Solitude (Pessac-Léognan) Blanc. This is another rich, nicely textured, medium- to full-bodied white in the vintage with loads to love. Geared for the dinner table, it will keep for 5–7 years, if not longer.

The religious order that owns this vineyard has entrusted the winemaking to Domaine de Chevalier. The team there has produced a crisp, tight Sauvignon Blanc-dominated wine. Offering flavors of green fruit and citrus, the wine has weight to go with that tangy character, giving it a fine future. It should be ready to drink from 2023.
