The 2021 Rouge, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, exhibits a fruity, delicate bouquet with aromas of dark berries, spices, flowers and nicely integrated oak. Medium-bodied, fresh and delicate, it’s juicy with velvety tannins and has a fresh, mouthwatering finish. In the context of the vintage, this is a real success.

Hot stones, white pepper, sour cherries and red plums on the nose. Medium body with fresh, fine tannins and a chalky, elegant finish. Not very intense, but refined. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Drink now.

The 2021 Domaine de la Solitude has an intense bouquet with black olive-tinged black fruit—well-defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. This is quite pure, revealing a touch of graphite toward the almost Pauillac-like finish. Fine.

Flowers, espresso, cocoa, spice and red berry aromatics dominate the perfume. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, soft, polished, refined and forward, leaving you with sweet, black raspberries, plums, cherries, chalk and a refreshing sprig of mint leaves. This will drink well on release and provide pleasure for more than a decade. Drink from 2024-2045.

Ripe red and black fruits, scorched earth, smoke, and some tobacco notes all emerge for the 2021 Domaine De La Solitude, a medium-bodied, balanced, elegant, yet nicely concentrated Péssac-Léognan. It plays in the fresher, focused end of the spectrum but brings ample sweet fruit and has ripe tannins and tons of character. It should have 15 years or more of prime drinking.

    The Wine Independent

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2021 Domaine de la Solitude Rouge is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It emerges slowly from the glass with notes of dark cherries, juicy plums, and kirsch, leading to suggestions of pencil lead and wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate is lively and expressive, with lightly chewy tannins and a lifted finish.

    Description

A fine red wine from Pessac-Léognan with a seductive elegance and complexity

    The estate

The name of Domaine de La Solitude originates from a rule of the community of the Holy Family: to pray in the silence of solitude. The community moved to the estate in the 19th century. The nuns decide to entrust the wine management of this Pessac-Léognan estate to outside parties. Since 1993, Olivier Bernard has been managing the estate. A very old property of Martillac, Domaine de la Solitude is distinguished by the quality of its wines, offering fantastic value for money. These wines are accessible in their youth, but also promise good evolution over years of ageing in bottle.

    The vineyard

A reference among Pessac-Léognan wines, Domaine de la Solitude watches over a 30-hectare red vineyard planted on gravelly soil upon a clay-gravel subsoil.

    Vinification and ageing

Sorting on the table. Vatting by gravity. Aged in barrels. First months of ageing on lees.

    The blend

Domaine de la Solitude 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
