    Vinum

Roasted aromas, clear, pure fruit, dried herbs, violet notes, very playful; approachable palate, gripping, balanced, firm tannins, solid length, red-fruited finish, ending on blood orange zest. Well done!

Shows a mulled edge, with red currant and cherry fruit melding with tea, singed sandalwood and rose hip accents. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2029. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 10,000 cases made.

    Decanter

Deep and highly aromatic on the nose – freshly picked red berries with dried herbs and a touch of liquorice. Supple and forward, this has nice energy and bounce. Creamy, super juicy and with a cooling mineral bite that comes across as slightly spiced with graphite and pencil lead accents and a slight chalky powderiness on the tongue. Really lovely frame and focus. Great to drink now, has plenty of punch but with lovely finesse too. Easy to enjoy this.

    James Suckling

Very perfumed, bright and crunchy. Rose petals, lemons and other citrus fruits. Medium body with citrus and raspberry flavors. Linear and long with lovely energy and vivacity. Drinkable now, but better in a couple of years.

    Antonio Galloni

The 2022 Domaine de la Solitude is soft, open-knit and very appealing. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, orange peel and cinnamon build effortlessly in the glass. Silky, plush tannins wrap it all together in style. This is a very pretty, floral wine from Martillac.

Smoke, wet earth, spice, and black cherries with a touch of flowers pop on the nose. On the medium-bodied palate, there are loads of sweet, ripe, juicy dark red fruits, freshness, and creamy tannins. This is going to be delicious on release. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with 40% Merlot. Drink from 2025-2038.

Spicy red and black fruits, savory tobacco, spicy wood, and leather notes all shine in the 2022 Domaine De La Solitude, a medium-bodied 2022 with a beautiful overall balance, a supple, layered mouthfeel, and nicely integrated tannins. It plays on the more complex, elegant end of the spectrum and is already hard to resist, yet it should easily evolve for 15+ years or more. The blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, all raised in 35% new oak.

Sappy, reserved in all the right places, with juicy black fruits, hints of sage and liquorice, never tipping into overripeness but right on the line, showing Pessac Léognan balance and approachability, good quality, one to look out for.

A truly refined gentleman! The nose charms with elegant notes of dark fruit, cigar smoke, and earth. The palate is smooth and silky, carried by enticing fruit, leading to a savory finish.

An inviting bouquet marked by spicy and fruity nuances with aromas of licorice and black berries. Harmonious and flavorful, the wine is fine, mouthwatering, and already ready to enjoy, while its tannins offer respectable cellaring potential! Very good glou-glou 😉

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark red color. Very aromatic nose with ripe, subtle fruit. Soft, flavorful palate that becomes juicy, with good length and no angular tannins. Blend: 60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% petit verdot.

    Terre de Vins

This wine offers lovely complexity, dominated by woody and spicy aromas, with a touch of licorice that reflects its aging. On the palate, slight astringency and a hint of bitterness bring tension. Dark fruits appear discreetly, while a pleasing length unfolds.

Game and cinnamon aromas give the spicy character of this wine. Tight black fruits, with layers of tannins and acidity indicate a wine ready to age. Drink this wine, produced by the Bernard family on a vineyard owned by a religious order, from 2027.

    Description

The balance and aromatic intensity of a Pessac-Léognan red wine

    The estate

The origin of the name Domaine de La Solitude can be traced back to the rule of the Holy Family community: pray in the silence of solitude. The community moved to the estate in the 19th century. The sisters decided to entrust the winegrowing management of this Pessac-Léognan to outside parties. Olivier Bernard has been managing the estate since 1993. A very old estate in Martillac, Domaine de la Solitude stands out for the quality of its wines, which offer excellent value for money, are accessible in their youth and promise to develop well.

    The vineyard

A benchmark among Pessac-Léognan wines, Domaine de la Solitude looks after a 30-hectare red vineyard planted on gravelly soil on a clay-gravel subsoil. This cuvée is made from vines that are an average of 35 years old.

    The vintage

The low-rainfall winter preceded early flowering between 15 and 20 May. Episodes of rain and thunderstorms occurred in June. The water reserves accumulated in the subsoil and the hard work of the winegrowers helped the vines to adapt to a summer marked by several heat waves. Harvesting of the white varieties took place between 22 August and 2 September. The red grape varieties were harvested between 6 and 27 September.

    Winemaking and ageing

Table sorting before and after destemming. Gravity vatting. Temperature regulated at 30°C at the end of fermentation. Aged in barrels for one year, including the first few months on the lees.

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (60%)
    Merlot (40%)
