    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 from Domaine de la Vougeraie

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a pale gold hue enhanced by subtle green glints.

    Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of honeysuckle and honey, underpinned by a pronounced minerality reminiscent of chalk and flint. With aeration, notes of baked apple, candied citrus and a delicate touch of hazelnut emerge.

    Palate
Full-bodied and concentrated, the palate offers wonderful vibrancy along with a saline, chalky texture. The refined acidity carries the wine through to a lingering finish, dominated by flavours of white fruit, honey and minerals.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with seafood such as grilled langoustines or oysters, as well as white fish with lemon butter. It also goes beautifully with creamy poultry dishes, foie gras or mature cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.

    Service and Storage

This Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 has fine ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2042.

The Richness and Mineral Tension of a White Burgundy

    The Estate

Officially founded in 1999 by Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset, Domaine de la Vougeraie is a key name in Burgundy, France. Located in Premeaux-Prissey, the estate today spans around 52 hectares across the region's terroirs. Currently run by the Boisset family, represented by Nathalie and Jean-Charles Boisset, with Sylvie Poillot as general manager, the estate stands out for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture. This environmentally respectful approach reveals the authenticity of each plot through wines renowned for their precision.

    The Vineyard

The vines dedicated to this cuvée cover almost half a hectare, divided into two historic plots: "Le Charlemagne" and "En Charlemagne", located on the south and south-west facing slopes of the Montagne de Corton, not far from the Corton-Charlemagne appellation. Planted mostly in the 1950s, these old vines thrive at altitudes of between 250 and 320 metres. The terroir is composed of pale soils rich in silica, limestone and marl, farmed according to biodynamic principles to promote soil vitality.

    The Vintage

The 2024 vintage was marked by challenging weather conditions, with water stress and intense summer heat considerably reducing yields. Despite these challenges, the growing cycle was able to reach completion under favourable conditions, allowing optimal ripeness to be achieved while preserving the berries' acidity. Harvesting took place late, at the end of September.

    Winemaking and Aging

Following manual harvesting and a rigorous double sorting, the whole clusters of this Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 are gently pressed over several hours. The must then undergoes 24 hours of settling before fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks. The wine is subsequently transferred to oak barrels (20% of which are new) for 14 months of ageing. Finally, a two-month refinement period in stainless steel tanks rounds out the wine before bottling.
