A Supple, Delicate Saumur-Champigny from Domaine des Closiers
The Estate
Taken over in 2019 by Anatole de La Brosse, an oenologist who changed careers after twenty years in consulting, the Domaine des Closiers is located in Parnay, at the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The vineyard spans 24 hectares. Surrounded by Michel Chevré and Nady Foucault, leading figures of the Loire, Anatole has undertaken a transformation toward organic and biodynamic farming. The estate stands out for its troglodyte cellars carved into the tuffeau and its predominance of Cabernet Franc.
The Vineyard
Les Closiers comes from fine parcels located in Parnay, at the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The vineyard lies on clay-limestone soils covered with sand, gravel, and clay, set on a limestone cliff overlooking the Loire. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, are farmed organically.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for Les Closiers 2022 are harvested by hand, then fully destemmed and sorted. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Total maceration lasts about a month. Aging takes place in stainless steel tanks for 8 months. The wine is not filtered.
