Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2024 from Domaine des Lambrays
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals an elegant ruby red, bright and beautifully translucent, reflecting the finesse of this French wine.
Nose
Deep and expressive, the bouquet opens with floral aromas of faded rose petals and ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. With aeration, a lovely complexity emerges through notes of wet stone, undergrowth, smoke and gentle spice.
Palate
Broad and finely structured, the palate offers a plush, rich and silky texture. A beautiful dynamic tension accompanies mineral and spicy flavours, stretching into a long, saline and persistent finish, lifted by a subtle touch of fresh chocolate.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich, tender meats such as duck tournedos with grapes, pigeon or veal. It will also enhance dishes featuring sweet-and-savoury garnishes, root vegetables or noble mushrooms such as morels and porcini.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2024, it is recommended to open the bottle one to three hours before tasting and to serve it at a temperature of 16 to 17°C. Built for ageing, this wine can develop in the cellar for one to two decades, and may be enjoyed until around 2044.
The Elegance and Power of a Great Burgundy Wine from Domaine des Lambrays
The Estate
Although the historic origins of its land date back to 1365 under the auspices of the Abbey of Cîteaux, Domaine des Lambrays was truly reunified as a single wine estate in 1868 by Albert-Sebastien Rodier. Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of Burgundy, this iconic estate is renowned for its near-monopoly over the eponymous grand cru. Acquired by the LVMH group in 2014 and now led by Jacques Devauges, it embodies the excellence of the Côte de Nuits through a demanding approach and certified organic viticulture.
The Vineyard
The cuvée comes from the "La Richemone" climat, a small premier cru plot of less than one hectare located within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, on the border with Vosne-Romanée. Set on a hillside with clay-limestone soils rich in marl and gravelly colluvium, this terroir benefits from excellent drainage. The vineyard, farmed organically, is home to very old vines planted in 1924. Yields are strictly controlled, notably through green harvesting, to ensure optimal berry concentration.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2024 are hand-harvested with meticulous sorting. In the cellar, vinification is carried out by gravity flow to preserve the integrity of the fruit, incorporating a significant proportion of whole-cluster grapes, generally around half of the harvest. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for approximately 17 months, with measured use of new oak (around 20%), allowing the wine to gain structure while respecting the purity of its aromas.
