The creaminess and richness of a Red wine from the Rhône Valley

    The property

With origins dating back to the 14th century, the Domaine des Sénéchaux is recognized as one of the oldest vineyards in Castro Novo, the land of the Pope's wines. An essential reference among the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate was acquired in 2006 by the Cazes family, also owners of the prestigious Château Lynch-Bages, Grand Cru Classé de Pauillac.

    The vineyard

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine comes from a mosaic of terroirs, composed according to the plots of rolled pebbles, red sandstone, safre or sand.

    The vintage

After a winter in line with seasonal norms but marked by a cold and rainy end, bud break occurred late, benefiting from a good water reserve. A difficult spring led to shatter on the black grenache and a delay in the vegetative cycle, but the healthy summer allowed to avoid green harvest. A double leaf thinning was carried out to optimize the aeration of the vines and limit the risk of diseases. The harvest, which began on September 26 with the syrah and ended on October 15 with the mourvèdre, was subject to rigorous sorting to keep only the best bunches.

    Vinification and aging

Maceration from 28 to 32 days. Aging for 12 months in vat (60%), in barrels of one wine (25%) and in tanks (15%).

    Blend

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2013 from Domaine des Sénéchaux is a blend of grenache (61%), syrah (20%), mourvèdre (18%) and vaccarèse-cinsault (1%).
