The Estate
While the history of the site dates back to the 11th century, the winegrowing estate itself was founded in 1666. Located in France, at the heart of Burgundy, the Domaine du Château de Meursault oversees a vineyard of nearly 67 hectares. Owned by the Halley family since 2012, the estate is now run by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. A true emblem of the region with its historic cellars, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, with organic certification across its entire vineyard and the development of agroforestry.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from a small 0.49-hectare plot located within the Beaune Premier Cru appellation. Planted at the foot of the slope and facing due east, the vines flourish on the "Grèves" climat, whose ancient name evokes a very stony soil. This perfectly drained terroir is made up of clay, limestone, chailles and sand. It is farmed entirely organically, promoting biodiversity and resilience to climate change.
The Vintage
2022 is a particularly significant year, as it marks the very first vintage in which the entire vineyard is certified organic. Weather conditions allowed for a fine, highly promising harvest, with healthy grapes reaching optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes destined for the Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves" 2022 undergo rigorous manual sorting followed by optical sorting. Vinification begins with a 15- to 18-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by a 5- to 6-day alcoholic fermentation punctuated by gentle punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged on its lees for 15 months in oak barrels, 33% of which are new, with the remainder having previously held one or two vintages.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
