    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2023 by Domaine du Château de Meursault

    Tasting

    Colour
The glass reveals a deep garnet hue leaning towards ruby.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves complex, dominated by notes of dark fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant. It is enriched with floral touches of peony, sweet spices such as cinnamon and liquorice, as well as a subtle mineral imprint reminiscent of chalk.

    Palate
The attack is generous and powerful, introducing an ample texture supported by tannins that are both silky and structured. The finish, persistent and complex, stands out with a beautiful mineral tension and great freshness.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with well-matured game meats such as venison or wild boar, as well as traditional sauce-based dishes such as coq au vin or hare stew. It also enhances grilled beef cuts, veal with mushrooms, meaty fish such as swordfish, or long-matured hard cheeses such as aged Comté.

    Service and Storage

With a structure built to last, this Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2023 can be cellared and will evolve favourably until around 2038.

    Other Characteristics

This vintage was crowned "Wine of the Year France" at the London Wine Competition 2025, achieving a remarkable score of 97 points.

The Elegance and Mineral Power of a Grand Cru from the Corton Hill

    The Estate

Founded in the 11th century by Duke Robert I, Domaine du Château de Meursault ranks among the oldest documented wine estates in Burgundy. Located at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, this historic 67-hectare estate has undergone a true renaissance since its acquisition in December 2012 by the Halley family, led by Olivier Halley. Under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the estate today combines respect for age-old traditions with agroecological innovations. Certified organic, the estate is recognised worldwide for the excellence of its terroirs and its commitment to biodiversity.

    The Vineyard

The "Les Maréchaudes" climat is located halfway up the famous Corton hill, benefiting from an ideal east-southeast exposure. The vines thrive on shallow, perfectly drained clay-limestone soils, favouring a precise mineral expression. The entire vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with particular attention paid to preserving biodiversity and soil health.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 stood out for its unique climatic conditions, delivering a historic harvest volume for the region. The growing cycle benefited from significant water reserves in spring and early summer, followed by moderate summer temperatures. These conditions allowed the berries to reach optimal phenolic maturity without excess sugar, thereby preserving great natural freshness.

    Winemaking and Aging

After manual harvesting, the berries intended for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2023 are destemmed and then rigorously sorted using an optical system. A cold pre-fermentation maceration of fifteen to eighteen days precedes an alcoholic fermentation punctuated by measured punching-down and pumping-over. Ageing then takes place in French oak barrels for around sixteen months, with a proportion of 40% new oak, 30% one-wine barrels, and 30% two-wine barrels.

    Grape Variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
