The authentic expression of a great terroir of Burgundy

    The estate

Founded in the 11th century, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a historic and essential estate in Burgundy, France. Today spanning nearly 68 hectares across the prestigious Côte de Beaune, the estate stands out for the diversity of its terroirs. Taken over in 2012 by the family of Olivier Halley, the current owner, and led by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the vineyard has undergone a profound modernisation. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate has been certified organic since 2022, combining respect for biodiversity with viticultural excellence.

    The vineyard

The Corton Grand Cru "Rognet" plot is a tiny gem of 0.12 hectares located on the famous Montagne de Corton. Facing east and south-east, at an altitude of around 270 metres, the vines enjoy ideal sun exposure. Planted in the early 20th century, these very old vines thrive on brown clay-limestone soils, enriched with gravel and iron-rich red clay, giving the grapes unique concentration and minerality.

    The vintage

The year 2023 was characterised by relatively cool climatic conditions, allowing the growing cycle to unfold peacefully and the berries to retain a lovely natural acidity, ensuring great freshness.

    Winemaking and aging

After hand-harvesting and rigorous optical sorting, the berries of this Corton Grand Cru "Rognet" 2023 are crushed and destemmed. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes alcoholic fermentation, punctuated by regular punching down and pumping over. The wine is then gently pressed before undergoing malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with up to 50% new oak, for 12 to 18 months, with regular lees stirring to enrich the texture.
