The wine has a bright straw color. The first nose is fresh, with notes of toast and pine grove. There’s lovely freshness, almost mentholated, with minerality and touches of aromatic herbs. Fine hints of pineapple and lime can be perceived. The second nose opens with a bit more breadth, showing stone-fruit notes. The palate is fresh and fruity, with notes of fresh apple, ripe yellow lemon as well as pineapple and apricot. There is attractive oak, with buttery and vanilla touches. A hint of fine bitters appears on the finish, with a mouthwatering touch of salinity and notes of pine sap, freshly cut grass, biscuit, and yellow peach. The wine has breadth, a certain richness, and firmness thanks to its acidity. The very end of the tasting lingers on jasmine. A pure beauty.

    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes Dessus" 2023 Domaine du Château de Meursault

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals an intensely golden hue, both bright and luminous.

    Nose
Complex and elegant, the nose opens on aromas of well-ripened stone fruit such as peach and pear, accompanied by delicate floral notes of acacia and white flowers. With aeration, subtle touches of hazelnut, brioche, smoky wood and a pronounced minerality emerge.

    Palate
The attack is broad, silky and rounded. The mid-palate offers a lovely concentration of ripe fruit, perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity. The remarkably long finish stretches out on an elegant toasty minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with noble shellfish such as lobster or langoustine, pan-seared turbot, or a monkfish blanquette. It also enhances herb-roasted poultry, mushroom-based dishes and matured cheeses such as Comté.

    Service and Storage
For optimal enjoyment, this wine should be served at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, aerating it for around 30 minutes before serving. It can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.

    Other Characteristics
The alcohol content ranges between 12.5 and 13.5%, with a classic pH between 3.2 and 3.3, ensuring lovely stability and freshness.

The Elegance and Aromatic Richness of a White Meursault Wine

    The Estate
Founded in the 11th century, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a historic and unmissable figure of Burgundy, France. Spanning a vast vineyard of 67 hectares across more than 110 plots, the estate has undergone a major qualitative evolution. Since 2012, the Halley family, represented by Olivier Halley, has overseen the estate's operational management, while the Boisseaux family retains ownership. Fully certified organic since 2022, the estate today combines respect for centuries-old traditions with modern environmental practices to produce wines of remarkable precision.

    The Vineyard
The climat "Les Charmes-Dessus" is one of the most qualitative plots within the Meursault appellation. The estate cultivates around 3 hectares of vines here, located mid-slope and benefiting from an ideal east-facing exposure. The soils, composed of hard Jurassic limestone and calcareous marl, give the wine its characteristic minerality. The vineyard is carefully tended by a dedicated team, in strict accordance with organic farming principles.

    The Vintage
2023 was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a warm, dry winter and early spring, rainfall in March favoured a uniform flowering. A stormy June required heightened vigilance against disease pressure. Ultimately, a mild summer followed by an exceptional heatwave in September allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining lovely acidity.

    Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, followed by rigorous sorting and gentle pneumatic pressing. After static settling, alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Aging lasts 18 months in barrels (35% new oak), with regular lees stirring during the first six months. The wine is then racked and stabilised in stainless steel tanks for two months before light filtration and bottling.

    Grape Variety
    Chardonnay (100%).
