The Elegance and Purity of a White Burgundy Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1098 by the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a historic estate in Burgundy, overseeing a vineyard of 60 to 67 hectares. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, a passionate advocate of Burgundian terroirs, the estate is now run by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. Under his guidance, a minimalist, environmentally respectful philosophy has been implemented, leading to organic certification in 2022. The estate stands out for its pursuit of excellence and its commitment to preserving biodiversity.

    The Vineyard

The vines dedicated to this cuvée flourish at the heart of the Meursault appellation. Planted at an altitude of around 260 metres, the vineyard enjoys an ideal east-to-south exposure while being sheltered from the wind by the Morvan massif. The soils consist of hard Jurassic limestone, marl and ancient alluvial deposits, providing excellent drainage. The estate also fosters a rich ecosystem by integrating cover crops and planting numerous nourishing plant species.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter and early spring. Rainfall in March enabled a uniform flowering in May. The summer was temperate, punctuated by a few storms in June, before giving way to a mild late season and a heatwave in September. These conditions allowed for an early harvest carried out during cool mornings.

    Winemaking and Aging

Following hand-picked harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. Alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels. The Meursault Village "du Château" 2023 is then aged for 12 to 18 months in barrel, with around 30% new oak, alongside a partially controlled malolactic fermentation.
