The elegance of a great red Burgundy wine by Domaine du Château de Meursault

    The Estate

Domaine du Château de Meursault, whose historic cellars date back to the 14th century, is a key figure in Burgundy. Located in France, this 65-hectare estate is now run by Olivier Halley, owner since 2012, with the support of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. Deeply committed to environmental preservation, the vineyard has held organic farming certification since 2022. The estate stands out for its dedication to showcasing the climats of Burgundy, offering wines that combine the utmost respect for terroir with sustainable practices.

    The Vineyard

The climat that gives rise to this wine is located at the top of a slope, overlooking the village of Pommard. Facing due south, the two blended plots cover a total area of 1.05 hectares. The vines thrive on brown, clay-limestone soil resting on ancient alluvial deposits. This terroir benefits from organic farming, which promotes biodiversity through the use of cover crops and environmentally respectful soil management.

    The Vintage

2023 began with early budburst in early April. Spring was marked by steady, intense vine growth, requiring particular attention to protect the foliage from May storms. Hand-harvesting began on 22 August and finished in early September, reflecting early ripeness that called for very rigorous optical and manual sorting of the bunches.

    Winemaking and Ageing

To craft the Pommard Village "Les Petits Noizons" 2023, the bunches are fully destemmed. The berries undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 15 to 18 days, followed by 5 to 6 days of alcoholic fermentation punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs. After pneumatic pressing, the wine is aged for 15 to 17 months in oak barrels, 35% of which are new, with the rest being one- to two-wine barrels.

    Grape Variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
