Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Sancerre "Les Chasseignes" 2023 from Domaine du Pré Semelé
Tasting notes
Colour
Bright and clear, it reveals a beautiful golden hue enhanced by vivid highlights.
Nose
Particularly expressive, it opens with a bouquet of exotic fruits reminiscent of mango, lychee and banana, nuanced by a delicate touch of vanilla. With aeration, subtle notes of white flowers, zesty lemon, green apple and a hint of white pepper enrich this aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack offers a beautiful volume supported by great freshness. The balance is remarkable, revealing a mineral and racy structure. The finish, generous and lingering, extends the fruity aromas at length.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with seafood, grilled lobster or fish in sauce such as halibut or sole. It also goes wonderfully with regional goat cheeses, particularly crottin de Chavignol.
The expression of a distinctive limestone terroir in Sancerre
The estate
The Raimbault family's winegrowing history in the Loire Valley began with Maurice on three hectares. In 2001, the estate officially took the name Domaine du Pré Semelé. Today, the property is run by the fourth generation, represented by brothers Julien and Clément Raimbault. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the vineyard achieved organic certification in 2023. The estate stands out for its natural winemaking philosophy, seeking to precisely express the identity of its terroirs.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from a plot located in the commune of Sury-en-Vaux, within the Sancerre appellation. This historic lieu-dit benefits from a southeast exposure. Its distinctive terroir is composed of caillottes, shallow limestone soils scattered with stones. The vines are harvested by hand to select the finest berries.
The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by rather warm weather conditions, favouring a good concentration of sugars and optimal ripeness of the berries, despite some climatic challenges encountered throughout the growing season.
Winemaking and aging
After gentle pneumatic pressing and cold settling, fermentation of the Sancerre "Les Chasseignes" 2023 begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on the lees, with regular lees stirring. Bottling takes place in the spring, without any fining or filtration.
Grape variety
Sauvignon Blanc (100%).
