Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Follin-Arbelet
Tasting
Appearance
The colour is a pale yellow with golden highlights, typical of a Chardonnay grand cru still in its early youth.
Nose
The nose is expressive and complex, blending notes of citrus blossom, white peach and honeysuckle, carried by an intense minerality that structures the entire bouquet.
Palate
The palate focuses on aromas of lemon and stone fruit, underscored by a hint of subtle toast and a crystalline minerality. The high acidity brings perfect tension to the whole, which extends into a finish of remarkable length.
Food and Wine Pairings
This grand cru is ideally paired with noble shellfish prepared in a cream sauce, such as lobster in cream, as well as free-range white meats with mushrooms, such as poultry with morels. It also pairs very well with soft cheeses enhanced with truffle.
Serving and Cellaring
This wine is ideally served at around 12°C. Its finesse will fully reveal itself after a few years of cellaring, for optimal enjoyment until around 2038.
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Follin-Arbelet: the Refined Minerality of the Hill of Corton
The Estate
Domaine Follin-Arbelet was founded in 1993 by Franck Follin-Arbelet in Aloxe-Corton, in the heart of Burgundy. The estate now extends over approximately 4.5 hectares, concentrated on premiers crus and grands crus on the hill of Corton. His son Simon is now involved in running the estate, continuing the style initiated by his father. Near-organic viticulture and winemaking without fining or filtration form the pillars of the estate's identity.
The Vineyard
The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the hill of Corton, on a limestone and clay terroir typical of the white grands crus of this area. Vineyard management avoids chemical fertilisers and systematic weedkillers, favouring a viticulture that respects the balance of the soils.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winemaking of this wine receives particular care in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. Bottling takes place without fining or filtration, in order to preserve the authenticity of the wine.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay.
