Perfumed and lush, this red exudes smoky black cherry, blackberry and violet flavors. Reveals iron, sandalwood, leather and spice notes, which add depth as this evolves on the palate. Just a touch hot, with fine length and detail in the end. Best from 2026 through 2043. 70 cases imported.

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru comes from vines planted in 1927, 1970 and 1990. The wine shows more red fruit than the regular cuvée, with sous-bois and scents of black truffle. Just a hint of red cherries emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins. Plush, generous and fleshy, the Vieilles Vignes has a very pure and silky finish. Just seeking a little more grip. I like this, but I would have added a few more whole bunches, as was done in the following vintage.

    Description

The minerality of a Clos Vougeot Grand Cru that stems from old vines

    The estate

Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundian appellations, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the estates which owns the most extensive surface area of Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The estate hails its exceptional heritage-filled vines, resting on land that has been cultivated for over 1400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watch over this exceptional heritage by carrying out organic and biodynamic farming practices. Thus, there is no unique "Rebourseau taste" and the quality-oriented approach emphasises the crucial part that the ''climat'' plays in the production of fine wines.

    The vineyard

The wines from Clos Vougeot developed by the estate come from a 2.21-hectare plot which shelters vines planted in 1927, 1968, 1973, 1977, 1990 and 2011.

From the 2019 vintage, a new label show that this Clos Vougeot Grand cru "Vieilles Vignes" was exclusively developed from this plot, planted in 1927, which stretches across 1.2 hectares. These old vines are located in the upper part of the climate, on a gentle slope where the soil is rich in gravel and limestone as well as clay.

    The wine

This wine’s terroir boasts an extraordinary history. In 1855, four of Burgundy's Grand Crus were classified as "hors ligne": Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Romanée Conti and Clos Vougeot.

    The vintage

Though the growing cycle in the Gevrey-Chambertin area started slowly, it accelerated from May onwards. The summer notably had two heatwaves. The harvest began on 10 September giving rise to structured and complex wines while preserving freshness and minerality.

    Winemaking and ageing

The harvested grapes were chilled as soon as they arrived in the winery. A minimalist intervention was chosen for the fermentations, with light treading the cap.

    Blend

    Pinot Noir (100%).
