    Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for La Nine 2023 from Domaine Senat

    Tasting

    Nose

The nose opens with intense black-fruit aromas evoking blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and cherry. These fruity notes are accompanied by spicy hints of licorice and cedar, along with the signature scents of Mediterranean garrigue.

    Palate

On the palate, the wine reveals beautifully ripe grapes, with a harmonious balance between generous fruit and well-defined tannins, the hallmark of the Minervois appellation.

    Other characteristics

This wine offers an indulgent yet structured profile, driven by a blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah grown under certified organic farming.

An authentic Minervois blend from Languedoc

    The estate

The Domaine Senat was founded between 1995 and 1996, when Jean-Baptiste Senat and his wife Charlotte settled in Trausse-Minervois, at the foot of the Montagne Noire. Owners of 15 hectares farmed under certified organic agriculture, they showcase a remarkable heritage of century-old vines. An atypical winegrower trained in political science in Paris, Jean-Baptiste Senat crafts vibrant, elegant wines that express the Languedoc terroir with sincerity.

    The vineyard

The vines of La Nine are planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of the Minervois. The vineyard is made up of 60-year-old Grenache, 110-year-old century-old Carignan and 30-year-old Syrah. The vines are trained in gobelet, contributing to the concentration and identity of the cuvée.

    The vintage

The 2023 vintage yielded grapes at optimal ripeness, fully expressing the character of the Minervois terroir and the typicity of this blend from Languedoc.

    Vinification and aging

La Nine 2023 is made from whole-cluster grapes harvested by hand. Maceration lasts 12 days, allowing for a harmonious extraction of aromas and tannins. The 7-month aging is split between tank (2/3) and barrel (1/3). Bottling was carried out at the estate.

    Grape varieties

    Grenache (50%), Carignan (40%), Syrah (10%).
