Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the 2024 Chablis 1er Cru "Les Beauroys" from Domaine Laroche
Tasting Notes
Appearance
This white wine displays a bright, clear colour ranging from pale yellow to light gold, with subtle greenish hints typical of its youth.
Nose
The bouquet is rich and complex. It first reveals aromas of stone fruit such as nectarine and white peach, mingled with notes of citrus and apple. Ageing brings enticing touches of brioche, warm croissant and sweet spices, including star anise, all underpinned by a minerality reminiscent of warmed gunflint and crushed shells.
Palate
The attack offers a smooth, enveloping texture, almost mellow. This roundness is perfectly balanced by a vibrant acidity that gives the wine a lovely tension. The remarkably long finish stretches out on refreshing saline and mineral notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with asparagus, whether white with mousseline sauce or green and grilled. It also perfectly accompanies fine fish such as turbot, sea bass or sole, scallops, as well as poultry in cream and mushroom sauce or vegetable risottos.
Serving and Ageing
The 2024 Chablis 1er Cru "Les Beauroys" can be enjoyed in its youth to make the most of its fruit and freshness. With its fine structure, it also has the capacity to age favourably in the cellar for several years, developing complex nuances of honey, hazelnut and undergrowth.
The Balance Between Sun-Kissed Richness and Minerality in a Premier Cru Chablis from Domaine Laroche
The Estate
The history of Domaine Laroche officially began in 1850, driven by Jean-Victor Laroche. Located in the heart of Burgundy, the estate boasts a unique historical heritage with the Obédiencerie, a former Carolingian monastery dating back to the 9th century. The vineyard now spans approximately 90 hectares. A pioneer in the use of screw caps and HVE 3A certified since 2016 for its agro-ecological practices, the estate now belongs to the AdVini group, which continues this pursuit of precision, blending centuries-old tradition with sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
The climat Les Beauroys is located on the left bank of the Serein, in the commune of Beines in Chablis. The vines, around thirty years old, benefit from a sunny south and south-west exposure within the Vallée des Vaux. They thrive on Kimmeridgian limestone slopes rich in marine fossils, which impart the minerality typical of the appellation. The estate applies a strict agro-ecological philosophy, free from herbicides, favouring mechanical soil work, pheromone-based confusion techniques and the principle of one responsible person per plot.
The Vintage
2024 was marked by extreme and contrasting weather conditions. The early part of the year saw heavy rainfall, saturating the soils with water. The summer then proved moderately warm, avoiding excessive heat and allowing for steady ripening of the grapes. These conditions favoured a return to a classic style, combining freshness and tension.
Winemaking and Ageing
The harvest for the 2024 Chablis 1er Cru "Les Beauroys" began on 19 September, carried out by hand and plot by plot. After careful sorting at the winery, the grapes undergo gentle pressing to retain only the free-run juice from the heart of the press. Fermentation takes place half in stainless steel tanks and half in French oak barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on fine lees for twelve months in the same containers.
