Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Gula Ana 2023 from Domaine Luneau-Papin
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a beautiful pale gold hue with a particularly brilliant sheen.
Nose
Intense and highly complex, the bouquet reveals superb aromas of citrus, white-fleshed fruit and flowers. These are elegantly underscored by mineral, stony and at times delicately smoky notes.
Palate
The attack is ample, dense and firmly structured. A magnificent saline backbone draws the wine out, offering delicious notes of candied lemon and ripe fruit. The remarkably long finish is carried by particularly invigorating bitter notes.
Food and wine pairings
This fine white wine is a natural partner for gastronomy and pairs wonderfully with noble fish or shellfish served in a sauce, such as lobster with baby vegetables and a shellfish jus. It will also elevate prestigious poultry, such as a casserole-roasted Bresse chicken, as well as aged cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
Gula Ana 2023 is best served at 12°C. Blessed with an exceptionally vinous structure, this wine has great ageing potential and will develop gracefully in the cellar for just over a decade.
The mineral elegance of a Muscadet Sèvre et Maine from Domaine Luneau-Papin
The estate
Founded in the 1990s through the union of two family estates, Domaine Luneau-Papin is a benchmark name in the Loire Valley. Now run by Marie and Pierre-Marie Luneau, the estate covers 27 hectares in the heart of the Nantes wine region. It stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach and its deep commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. By combining time-honoured tradition with a modern focus on quality, the current owners have raised their cuvées to rank among the region's finest white wines for gastronomy and ageing.
The vineyard
The La Butte de la Roche plot overlooks the magnificent Goulaine marshes, within the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation. This singular terroir, located in the village of Loroux-Bottereau, rests on a very rare geology made up of weathered peridotite and serpentinite bedrock. The vines, planted in 1974 at a high density of 6,500 vines per hectare, are farmed biodynamically using natural preparations, without any synthetic products. Short single Guyot pruning and partial replanting on individual stakes along the rocky ridge ensure grapes of exceptional quality.
The vintage
The 2023 growing season began with a spring and early summer marked by intense heat. Welcome rainfall then refreshed the vines in July and early August. Finally, high temperatures returned at the end of summer and persisted throughout the harvest. These weather conditions produced berries that perfectly express the singularity of the terroir, with the effects of the sun kept perfectly in check.
Winemaking and ageing
After extremely careful sorting carried out directly in the vineyard, the grapes for Gula Ana 2023 undergo spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, triggered solely by indigenous yeasts. The wine then benefits from extended ageing on its lees for 21 months in underground vats. No racking takes place before bottling, which is scheduled for July 2025.
