    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Burg 2022 by Domaine Marcel Deiss

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a bright yellow hue, ranging from pale to golden, with great clarity.

    Nose
Remarkably complex, the nose exudes aromas of ripe pear, baked apple, apricot and lemon zest, intertwined with notes of white flowers, honey and a chalky, saline minerality. With aeration, nuances of liquorice, lychee, honeysuckle and wisteria emerge.

    Palate
Rich and fruity, the palate offers a fat, unctuous texture, balanced by lovely acidic tension and refreshing citrus notes. The finish, remarkably long, lingers on a delicate lemony bitterness. This white wine from France presents an off-dry profile.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with pan-seared foie gras, duck à l'orange or herb-roasted poultry. It also enhances seafood and meaty fish such as salmon, as well as matured cheeses like Comté or Munster. For dessert, it ideally accompanies orchard fruit-based preparations.

    Serving and Storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Burg 2022 between 10 and 12°C, after a light decanting of 15 to 30 minutes. This wine is suitable for cellaring until around 2032.

    Other Characteristics
This wine stands out for its off-dry style, offering a slight sweetness perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity.

The Mineral Complexity of an Alsace Terroir by Domaine Marcel Deiss

    The Estate
Founded in 1947 by Marcel Deiss in Bergheim, Alsace, Domaine Marcel Deiss is a true institution renowned for its philosophy centred on terroir expression. A pioneer of co-planting and a fervent advocate of biodynamic viticulture, the estate has managed to shake up regional traditions. Today, Mathieu Deiss heads the estate, working closely with his father, Jean-Michel. Together, they carry on this family heritage, crafting wines of great complexity that faithfully reflect the geological diversity of their Alsatian plots.

    The Vineyard
Classified as Premier Cru, the Burg vineyard is located in Bergheim, Alsace. South-facing and sheltered from northern winds, the vines benefit from a cool microclimate that favours late harvests. Planted between 1977 and 1997 at a high density of around 10,000 vines per hectare, they thrive on complex soils composed of multicoloured Keuper marls with rare limestone inclusions. The estate practises co-planting here, growing several grape varieties simultaneously on the same plot in accordance with biodynamic principles.

    Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Burg 2022 are harvested simultaneously at optimal ripeness, then subjected to whole-bunch pressing to preserve the delicacy of the fruit. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes twelve months of ageing on the lees in traditional old oak foudres, allowing for slow maturation without imparting woody aromas to the wine.

    Grape Varieties
This wine is the product of a co-planting of around thirteen Alsatian varieties, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Muscat.
