    Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2020 from Domaine Poisot Père & Fils

    Tasting

    Color

With its deep ruby-red hue, the wine shows a magenta density that reflects the concentration and maturity of the vintage.

    Nose

The nose opens on a ripe, highly indulgent bouquet, revealing aromas of red fruits such as morello cherry, tangy cherry and redcurrant, alongside deeper black-fruit notes such as plum. With aeration, floral nuances of violet and rose emerge, while tertiary touches evoking forest floor, leather and pepper bring lovely aromatic complexity.

    Palate

On the palate, this wine is powerful and full-bodied, structured by firm yet silky, well-integrated tannins. The attack reveals generous substance and fine fruit concentration, with flavors of candied cherries, plum and dark berries. Lively acidity brings freshness and balance, while the mineral dimension of the terroir comes through on the mid-palate. The finish, with excellent length, lingers on notes of fine tannins, minerality and pepper, with remarkable aromatic persistence.

    Food and wine pairings

This Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2020 pairs beautifully with roasted red meats such as rib steak or entrecôte, especially when served with wild mushroom or truffle sauces. It also matches wonderfully with feathered game such as pigeon or duck, as well as braised dishes like boeuf bourguignon. For cheese, opt for aged firm cheeses such as Cîteaux or Époisses.

    Serving and cellaring

The Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2020 is best served at a temperature of 16 to 18°C. While already enjoyable, this wine will benefit from at least five to seven years of cellaring to reach its peak and can evolve favorably for around fifteen to twenty years.

A powerful and expressive Burgundy grand cru

    The estate

The Domaine Poisot Père & Fils traces its origins to 1902, when Marie Poisot, daughter of Louis Latour, inherited part of the family estate. Since 2010, Rémi Poisot—after a twenty-eight-year career in the French Navy—has been running this family-owned property of around two hectares located in Aloxe-Corton. The estate stands out for an exceptional concentration of prestigious terroirs, cultivating three grand crus (Corton Bressandes, Corton Charlemagne and Romanée-Saint-Vivant) as well as a premier cru in Pernand-Vergelesses. In 2024, LVMH acquired 1.3 hectares of the estate, while allowing the Poisot family to continue farming the vines.

    The vineyard

Corton Bressandes is one of the twenty-five Climats classified as grand cru on the Montagne de Corton, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. This exceptional terroir enjoys a south-southeast to southwest exposure, mid-slope, between 250 and 330 meters above sea level. The clay-limestone soils, rich in marl and potassium, rest on Oxfordian limestones dating back 145 million years. This unique geological composition gives the wines a powerful structure while preserving finesse and mineral expression, hallmarks of the greatest Pinot Noir wines from Bourgogne.

    The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Bourgogne is defined by a warm, generous year, marked by abundant sunshine throughout the growing season. Despite the heat, the vines maintained sufficient freshness thanks to the altitude and exposure of the Corton parcels. These conditions allowed the grapes to reach full maturity, producing concentrated, ripe wines while retaining the acidity and precision needed for balance and cellaring.

    Winemaking and aging

The Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2020 is made using traditional Burgundian methods, with particular attention paid to tannin extraction and the preservation of aromas. Fermentation is carried out at controlled temperatures to encourage fruit expression and refined tannins. Aging takes place in oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months, with a moderate proportion of new oak to bring complexity and structure without masking the character of the terroir.
