    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Domaine" 2023 Poisot Père & Fils

    Tasting notes

    Colour
The colour reveals a vivid red hue, of great purity and beautiful clarity.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals itself as particularly aromatic and expressive. It exhales vibrant aromas of red and black fruits, dominated by sweet strawberry and cherry, which harmoniously intertwine with delicate floral notes and subtle touches of exotic spices and white pepper.

    Palate
Fleshy and generous, the palate offers ample substance supported by supple, refined tannins. With fresh and linear acidity, this wine unfolds a very present mid-palate that stretches elegantly toward a remarkably persistent finish.

    Other characteristics

This wine has a natural alcohol content of between 13 and 13.5%. Bottled without fining or filtration to preserve the full authenticity of its terroir, it may develop a light natural sediment over time.

The elegance and purity of a Grand Cru from Burgundy

    The estate

Heir to a long family tradition dating back to 1902, Domaine Poisot Père & Fils is located in Aloxe-Corton, in Burgundy, France. This intimate vineyard of around two hectares is now managed by Rémi Poisot. A former ship's captain, he took over the estate in 2010 to bottle his own wines. Cultivating prestigious plots with a philosophy of minimal intervention and a deep respect for the environment, the estate embodies the perfect alliance between historical heritage and contemporary precision winemaking.

    The vineyard

The Romanée-Saint-Vivant plot spans 0.49 hectares in the historic Clos-des-Quatre-Journaux sector. Facing east to benefit from the morning sun, the vines, around thirty-five years old, thrive on deep brown limestone soils rich in clay, resting on a Jurassic subsoil. The estate, certified High Environmental Value, favours mechanical soil work, natural grass cover on the slopes, and meticulous leaf thinning to ensure optimal grape health.

    The vintage

The year 2023 stood out for its mild weather conditions, beginning with a gentle, dry winter. The bright, cool spring provided ideal flowering conditions in May and June. The hot summer, marked by low rainfall, favoured rapid progress through the vegetative cycle. Finally, a heat peak at the end of the season allowed perfect phenolic ripeness to be reached, resulting in a generous and healthy harvest.

    Winemaking and aging

For this Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Domaine" 2023, the hand-harvested grapes are fully destemmed before macerating for a few days in open oak vats, at controlled temperatures between 15 and 17 degrees. Alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously through indigenous yeasts, accompanied by daily pumping-over. The wine is then aged for sixteen to eighteen months in oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place. After two rackings, the wine rests for a few weeks in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
