Colour
The colour reveals a delicate ruby hue, of pale to medium intensity.

Nose
The bouquet opens with subtle red fruit aromas, evoking cherry and raspberry, accompanied by floral touches of rose and violet. Beautiful mineral notes of graphite and rock salt then emerge, complemented by light nuances of leather and earth.

Palate
The attack is vibrant and precise, carried by lovely acidity. The mid-palate unfolds flavours of red cherry and blood orange, underlined by fine herbal notes. The texture is both generous and velvety, supported by elegant, polished tannins. The remarkably long finish reveals a persistent minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with herb-roasted poultry, duck breast with cherry sauce, or delicate white meats such as veal escalope with mushrooms. It will also elevate a wild mushroom risotto or roasted root vegetables.

The estate

Founded in 1999 by a passionate oenologist, Domaine Sylvain Pataille has become an essential reference in Burgundy, France. Starting with just one hectare, the estate now spans 15 to 18 hectares of vines. Sylvain Pataille, who remains at the helm of the estate as its sole owner, is supported by his brother Laurent. A fervent advocate of local terroirs, he rigorously applies the principles of organic farming and biodynamics. The estate stands out for its minimal-intervention approach, thereby preserving the purest and most authentic expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a renowned historic climat located within the Marsannay appellation. The vines, aged between 40 and 70 years, thrive on slopes facing east and southeast, at an altitude ranging from 211 to 268 metres. The terroir owes its uniqueness to its complex soils, composed of layered scree on the surface, resting on a base of marly limestone. This unique geology gives the grapes exceptional minerality and great depth.

The vintage

The year 2023 offered climatic conditions that allowed for very satisfactory ripeness. The growing cycle unfolded optimally, giving the berries excellent phenolic and alcoholic ripeness, while avoiding the excess heat or concentration observed in certain previous years.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Marsannay Village "Clos du Roy" 2023 are harvested by hand with extremely rigorous sorting. Fermentation takes place with whole bunches, without temperature control, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Finally, bottling is carried out without any fining or filtration in order to preserve the full aromatic complexity.
