Characteristics and tasting tips for the Marsannay Village "Le Chapitre" 2022 by Domaine Sylvain Pataille
Tasting
Appearance
This wine displays a beautiful red colour.
Nose
The bouquet is remarkably precise, revealing aromas of small red and black fruits. It is enhanced by delicate floral notes of peony and violet, blended with touches of sweet spices, pepper, dried flowers and subtle smoky or earthy nuances.
Palate
On the palate, this wine combines a fleshy texture with lovely freshness. The fine, silky tannins stretch out elegantly, supported by a structuring acidity. The whole offers a refined texture and remarkable depth, reflecting a perfect balance between tension and ripeness.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine will pair beautifully with white meats, roast poultry or delicate dishes in sauce served with mushrooms, which will highlight its spicy and floral notes.
Serving and cellaring
With its fine tannic structure, the Marsannay Village "Le Chapitre" 2022 has excellent ageing potential and can be cellared to develop until around 2032.
The authentic expression of the Marsannay terroir by Domaine Sylvain Pataille
The estate
Founded in 1999 by oenologist Sylvain Pataille, Domaine Sylvain Pataille is located in Marsannay-la-Côte, the northern gateway to the red wines of Burgundy. Starting from scratch with a single hectare, the vineyard now covers just over seventeen hectares. Still at the helm of the estate today, Sylvain Pataille, now joined by his brother Laurent, stands out for an approach that is deeply respectful of living ecosystems and a minimal-intervention winemaking philosophy. A fervent champion of local climats, the domaine is recognised as an essential benchmark for its authentic expression of terroir.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from the "Le Chapitre" climat, located in the commune of Chenôve, in the north of the Marsannay appellation. This small plot of old vines lies on hillsides with very poor, stony soils made up of limestone, clay and marl. Enjoying a cool climate yet optimal sunshine, the vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, including horse-drawn ploughing, which encourages deep rooting and naturally controlled yields.
The vintage
In Burgundy, 2022 was marked by a particularly hot and sunny season. These weather conditions allowed the grapes to reach full, generous ripeness, while preserving the freshness essential to their balance in the best-situated sites.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the Marsannay Village "Le Chapitre" 2022 is deliberately minimalist in order to respect the identity of the fruit. Fermentations begin spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, using a significant proportion of whole bunches and gentle extractions. Malolactic fermentations take place naturally. The wine then undergoes extended ageing of around eighteen months in vaulted cellars, in oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak of approximately 35%.
