Serving and ageing
Thanks to its refined structure and perfect balance, this 2023 vintage has exceptional ageing potential, allowing it to evolve majestically in the cellar over several decades.
The elegance and depth of a great Burgundy Grand Cru
The estate
The family's winemaking history began in 1859, but Domaine Trapet Père et Fils was truly founded in 1919 with the acquisition of its first Grand Cru plots. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Burgundy in France, this prestigious estate is now run by Jean-Louis Trapet, together with his wife Andrée and their sons Pierre and Louis. A pioneer of biodynamics since 1995, the domaine covers around 19 hectares. It is renowned worldwide for wines that combine power and finesse, reflecting the complexity of its exceptional terroirs with great purity.
The vineyard
Often regarded as the king of Burgundies, the Chambertin terroir lies on deep marl and limestone soils rich in clay. Here, the estate farms 1.90 hectares divided into three plots, the oldest vines of which were planted in 1919. These century-old roots allow the vines to draw on the full mineral richness of the subsoil. The entire vineyard is Demeter-certified and farmed biodynamically, an approach that fosters the vitality of the soil and the resilience of the vines.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by particularly hot weather conditions in Burgundy, leading to a rapid growing cycle and early ripening of the berries. These demanding conditions called for constant vigilance and great precision in determining the ideal harvest date.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. Extractions are carried out gently to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Ageing is then conducted with great care, limiting the influence of new oak and favouring larger vessels to ensure the transparency of the terroir.
