    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" 2023 Domaine Dujac

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine reveals a brilliant ruby colour of beautiful clarity. Its moderate visual concentration reflects a measured extraction and great finesse.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of small red and black fruits, reminiscent of black cherry and raspberry. Delicate touches of violet intertwine with soft spices, offering fine complexity.

    Palate
The palate seduces with its velvety texture and silky elegance. The fine tannins integrate perfectly into the structure, leading to a persistent finish marked by a highly refined chalky minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with noble poultry such as roasted pigeon or duck breast, as well as with fine game or roasted lamb. Earthy dishes, such as mushroom risotto or truffle-based preparations, will also enhance this wine beautifully. When it comes to cheese, favour medium-intensity aged varieties such as Comté, Époisses, or Brillat-Savarin.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16 to 17°C, taking care to decant it for about thirty minutes while it is still young. Built to last, this wine can be kept and enjoyed until around 2042.

The Elegance and Mineral Precision of a Great Burgundy Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac has established itself as an essential reference in Burgundy. Initially based in Morey-Saint-Denis, the estate now spans approximately 17.5 hectares of vines cultivated with deep respect for the environment. Currently led by the new generation, made up of Jeremy, Diana, and Alec Seysses, the estate continues to uphold a philosophy centred on the authentic expression of terroir. Renowned for its whole-cluster winemaking, Domaine Dujac produces wines of great purity, combining tradition with unwavering quality standards.

    The Vineyard

This cru comes from the prestigious terroir of Vosne-Romanée, located in the Côte de Nuits. The Les Beaux Monts plot benefits from an elevated position, offering a cooler microclimate and excellent east-southeast exposure. The vines thrive on shallow soils composed of limestone-rich marl, fragments of chaille, and reddish clay, resting on a bedrock of Premeaux limestone. This terroir, with its optimal drainage, forces the vines to root deeply, giving the grapes remarkable concentration and a unique mineral identity.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter, delaying bud break until early April and thus protecting the buds from frost. The summer season, warm and punctuated by timely rainfall, encouraged a quick and even flowering. The growing cycle proceeded under favourable conditions until harvest, which was marked by a sudden and intense heatwave. This scorching late-season spell produced grapes of great richness while naturally regulating the generous yields of the year.

    Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" 2023 follows a minimal-intervention approach. Fermentation begins naturally through indigenous yeasts in open vats, with a high proportion of whole clusters and no mechanical crushing. Gentle punching down and delicate pumping over accompany the process to extract the tannins smoothly. The wine is then transferred by gravity for ageing of fourteen to eighteen months in oak barrels, a majority of which are new, to refine its structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
