Description
A fresh and elegant great wine from Mendoza by El Enemigo
The estate
Born from a shared passion, the El Enemigo brand was officially founded in 2007. This winemaking project, located in the renowned Mendoza region of Argentina, is run by its two current owners: Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, the latter also acting as winemaker. The estate stands out for its commitment to combining a rigorous scientific approach with a genuine expression of terroir. By exploring high-altitude landscapes, the estate has quickly built a solid international reputation, offering wines that faithfully reflect the identity and memory of their place of origin.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the Agrelo area, located in the Luján de Cuyo zone, in the heart of the Mendoza province. The vines thrive at an altitude of 930 metres on clay-based soils. Planting density here is particularly high, reaching 10,000 vines per hectare.
The vintage
2022 is considered an exceptional year in the region. Weather conditions and the growing cycle resulted in remarkable concentration, perfectly ripe polyphenols, as well as an ideal balance of alcohol and optimal acidity. Winemaker Alejandro Vigil even describes this harvest as the best he has ever experienced.
Winemaking and ageing
The creation of El Enemigo 2022 begins with a three-day cold maceration. Fermentation then takes place in concrete tanks at an average temperature of 23°C, incorporating 20% whole clusters. This is followed by a forty-day infusion with minimal intervention. Finally, the wine undergoes fifteen months of ageing, carried out exclusively in concrete tanks.
Grape varieties
El Enemigo's Gran Enemigo "Agrelo" 2022 is crafted from a blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Malbec.
