A fresh and flavorful Spanish white wine from F. Algueira

The Estate

Founded in 1979 by Fernando González in the municipality of Doade in Galicia, F. Algueira spans 30 hectares of vineyards planted on steep slopes overlooking the Sil River. The estate practices sustainable viticulture moving towards organic. A pioneer in the revival of Galician native grape varieties, F. Algueira showcases an exceptional minerality characteristic of the Ribeira Sacra.

The Vineyard

Cornamus is a Galician wine from vineyards cultivated on terraces with extremely steep slopes. Located between 200 and 600 meters in altitude with southeast and east exposures, they benefit from a continental climate with Atlantic influence. The granite, quartz and gneiss soils give the wine its distinctive mineral signature characteristic of the Ribeira Sacra. The vines are bush-trained without irrigation.

Winemaking and Aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes are destemmed then foot-trodden. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks then finishes in 1,000-liter foudres using only indigenous yeasts. The aging of this Ribeira Sacra wine.se continues for 15 months in French 2,000-liter foudres on the lees with bâtonnage, preserving the elegance and expression of the terroir.

Grape Variety

100% godello, a native Galician white grape variety that F. Algueira has helped revive for 45 years, here expressing its full capacity to reveal the minerality of granite terroirs.
