F. Algueira : Escalada 2023

Beautiful expression of Godello, with an unctuous mid-palate but great mineral freshness underneath. Frangipane and lemon curd rest, with creamy generosity. Toasted almonds flakes, wet hay and fennel top add nuance and energy. Drinking beautifully now but with great potential to age further in bottle.

This is really perfumed, with lemon zest and sliced peach aromas. The medium- to full-bodied palate is beautifully tense, with lots of brightness and energy. It’s crystalline and subtly nervy with a clean, well-constructed finish. This is from a single south-facing vineyard planted on poor schist soils. Drink now or hold.

The 2023 Godello Escalada from Doade in Ribeira Sacra was aged on lees in old foudres. Its aromas include acacia, pear and gentle herbs, with a subtle note of barrel age and a hint of tangerine peel. The palate is creamy, slightly malic and talc-like, delivering a sapid, flavorful expression.
